I'm not even sure Pikmin 3 will recoup its development costs, as its probably the most expensive Pikmin game to make and will likely end up selling the least of the series.
So W101 was always in tough.
Nintendo's best bet with the game is to push the buy Pikmin 3 + W101 line and get $30 off on the eShop.
Unfortunately I think both 101 and Bayo2 probably won't do as well as Nintendo was banking on and Platinum and Nintendo will cut ties after Bayo2 ships. Nintendo tends to bail on 2nd party partners when they are unprofitable.
