Sure, ps360 sales are ps2's 150M in falf for each, even though some good 40M of those sales were in emerging markets. and 80% of wii sales were from non gamers, okay.
your arrogance makes me laugh. the difference between wii and ps360 audiences is that ps360 is played generally by kids and teens while wii is played by kids, teens, adults and elderly alike. and by the way, the people you call "non-gamers", if they bought a video game to play it, then they're gamers.

I wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. Nintendo does appeal to a more diverse audience than the PS3 and 360, but to say the PS3 and 360 are generally played by kids? I really don't see it- if anything it's mostly played by teens. Nintendo appeals to a larger audience because their games are geared toward children that will grow up with those franchises and continue to play them into adulthood, but it's still predominately a console for kids and to say that somehow the PS3 and 360 are just that while the Wii isn't is factually incorrect. And furthermore - to say that the wii appeals to teens is also incorrect. The Wii was a joke in my high-school; people didn't think it was mature enough for them.

It's an interesting read, but to summarize: Wii is popular amongst adult women and little boys (age 6-11) while being unpopular amongst teens. the 360 is most popular for 12-17 year olds and the Ps3 is most popular amongst 18-24 year olds.
I didn't call them non-gamers btw. I said casuals that don't normally play games- which is a true statement. I agree that anyone who plays games is a gamer.

bolded: the pejorative arrogance makes me sad. nintendo games CAN be played by kids (some nintendo games, anyway) but the games are aimed for everyone. I don't understand this necessity to try proving (in vain), the old "nintendo is for kidies".
it's funny how you reacted about ps360 being played mostly by kids and teens. dude, that's the regular video game audience. certainly the number of adults that play video games is growing, but if a home has a video game then the most probable users are the kids and teens. wii changed that by including the adults and elderly from the get go.

I guess we have to disagree here too XD I have a Wii (I'm not all anti-nintendo and will be buying a wii U in the future). I'll just say that there's definitely a thin line between "for kids" and "for everyone". What you might consider family entertainment can be seen as kiddy to some. Some of my favorite games of this gen has been from the Wii, but I'll be damned if they weren't made for kids in mind complete with holding your hands and talking down to you (The Zelda titles come to mind especially). Judging by the Pikmin video I saw (first 50 minutes) it doesn't seem like they've backed down from that. Remember when all you needed was: It's dangerous to go alone. Take this sword. That was "for everyone". What they have now is "for kids, but the adults might like it too".
Also I gave you a credible source for the ages of the console users. I wasn't just going off on Nintendo or being defensive for PS360.
I should add: there's no intended offense towards Nintendo or its fans. I'm not attacking you personally if you get that vibe- I just see it as one way and you another.

bolded1: that's new to me. calling nintendo games in general "easy" and "holding your hands". first, they don't, nintendo games are some of the few who remained chalenging among all games. second, if that was true and easy game = kiddie game, then you are forced to agree that ps360 games are for kiddies. their games are the ones generally far too easy and self playing.
bolded2: I don't. I get the vibe you're attacking nintendo's fanbase by calling it kiddie when it isn't.

I wouldn't call it an attack. I was pointing out that among the big 3 consoles - the Wii was most popular amongst very young children, whereas the Xbox and PS3 were most popular amongst teens and young adults because of your comment on the audience of the consoles.
I realize that saying their games are aimed at children might've been offensive, that's why I added the "There's a thin line between "for kids" and "for everyone" thing. That's just how I see a lot of Nintendo games and I understand a lot don't.
Also holding your hand and talking down to you =/= easy. It means that the product was directed at a young audience. Looking at the demographical make-up of the Wii- it makes sense why they would make those games like that. A game made for everyone in mind wouldn't talk down to the player or have to explain basic mechanics over and over. If you took those out- yes you have a game made for everyone in mind, but those things are there and hard to ignore.
And just because something was made for kids, it doesn't mean its kiddy. There are kids movies that are made for children, but are mature enough for an adult audience like say Toy Story, Finding Nemo or The Secret of Nimh (some of my favorite moveis ever) and then you have something like Garfield, Cars 2 or Alvin and the Chipmunks- which are clearly made solely for young kids. Sometimes the lines are blurred and you end up with what I hate about current Nintendo games (again not all). IMO
I shouldn't have to add this, but obviously there are many Nintendo games that don't do this and I love them.
This whole thing really got off topic. The only reason I brought it up was because of your comment . I wasn't using it to smear the Nintendo fanbase. In summary - the Wii U won't sell 10 mil and the Wii did not steal marketshare from Playstation.
