Correct me if i'm wrong... but isn't the Wii U ahead of the PS3 aligned launches wise? Or did it catch up? |
Yes, of course, it wasn't $600 either (and its amazing the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360's first year at that price as well). The lack of strong third party with Nintendo will cause them to grow to a fraction of the rate they could grow to without a gimmick. They need the mid tier gamer Microsoft and Sony are so crazy about, who buy the COD's and Maddens and all the annualized franchises. Nintendo made a boatload of profit the majority of last gen but failed to capitalize on high sales on third party games on their console like Sony and Microsoft. Pachter has already predicted from their initial movements that Nintendo will be in a distant third and this was in line with my initial prediction that they will sell 35-40 million consoles. They will profit. It was purely first party profit even with all the third party support. I am sure you've read articles on that. Sony and Microsoft naturally reach the broader audience without having to use major peripherals better than Nintendo. Don't expect Nintendos Wii market to return this gen, they will have disappeared for the gen and the size of the marketshare we once had will look like erroded. Because Sony launched with Microsoft, they are at a natural advantage because this puts them in their element of power. As Nintendos momentary fanbase disappears Sony will grow past last gens marketshare and Microsoft will have grown even though they wont beat Sony from taking at least part of their former marketshare back. I don't think Sony will reach anywhere near to PS2 numbers this gen though. They have the greatest advantage of any company and if they at least tie Microsoft in America and get Japan to become interested in their console again they will reach 100 million consoles unlike this gen.
Care to hold me to this? :)
