Forums - General - What is the Best TV for Gaming?

Plasma is your best answer. no lag in your fast action games and 3D is at its best.

Your biggest problem in getting an LCD is the price your shooting for. Others have mentioned 120hz. That is not really ideal for gaming or 3D if you choose. The 240hz LCD's will get you for $2,000+ US.

You serious? 120hz is the best thing to happen to gaming since sliced bread, it brings with it improved fluidity even if you aren't hitting 120fps.
It's the closest an LCD will get to a CRT, that's for sure.

The 240hz is essentially marketing speak, it interpolates the frames to get that.

Anyone who has a PC and a 120hz/144hz monitor can attest that the differences are pretty huge even if you aren't hitting high fps numbers.

Of course, Plasma's are pretty much immune to such things and have far better blacks on top of it.
LCD on the other hand doesn't get burn-in, uses less power and usually has better whites, each technology (which both aren't perfect) has it's Pro's and Con's.

If the room where you'll put your TV is not directly lit by sun, Plasma is the way to go. I would only recommend buying a LED/LCD if the room is too bright or if you'll extensively use your PC on it.

"3) Must be at least 57 inches." are you sure you arent talking about my penis?!! booo yaaaa!!

Interesting that you think that it is "marketing speak".  That was/is the case on the cheaper 120hz models that use onboard software to make them 240hz.  If you were to buy a higher end model, they actually run 240hz and use software to emulate 480hz.  Like all things electronic, they are always going to continue to speed things up - they always need to have a reason for you to pay more for one unit or another.

Either way, there isn't a significant benefit for watching standard tv for anything above 120hz as I'm guessing you already know.  The big benefit is for 3D tv or gaming.

Forget Plasma. Horrible burn in and the cost more to run. These 120Hz and 240Hz can actually induce lag input in your games. Games are either 30Hz or 60 , so these 120Hz Tv can cause the game to drop frames and "lag", unless your using 3D which essentially makes it 60Hz for each eye. . LED or LCD is the way to go, Sony , Panasonic or Samsung.

I haven't ever run into that problem on my plasma or my 120hz LCD or my 240hz LCD.  I will have to ask around, I have never even heard of this problem - with the exception of 60hz tvs and soe 120hz cheap tvs.  But, maybe i just haven't run into yet.

I would reccomend a Sony tv there awesome

Current plasmas don't have burn in, only image retention(which LCD TVs also have), and it only happens if you put a static image running on your TV for lots and lots of hours. They also have settings to lessen the chance of image retention happening, so it's not a thing to worry about. About them "costing more to run", if you're talking about power usage, current plasmas dropped power usage tremendously and are at LCD(CCFL, not LED) levels. Of course, they consume more than LED, but that difference is likely to cost you only a few dollars per year, so I also believe you shouldn't worry about that.
