That is not really ideal for gaming or 3D if you choose. The 240hz LCD's will get you for $2,000+ US. |
You serious? 120hz is the best thing to happen to gaming since sliced bread, it brings with it improved fluidity even if you aren't hitting 120fps. It's the closest an LCD will get to a CRT, that's for sure.
The 240hz is essentially marketing speak, it interpolates the frames to get that.
Anyone who has a PC and a 120hz/144hz monitor can attest that the differences are pretty huge even if you aren't hitting high fps numbers.
Of course, Plasma's are pretty much immune to such things and have far better blacks on top of it. LCD on the other hand doesn't get burn-in, uses less power and usually has better whites, each technology (which both aren't perfect) has it's Pro's and Con's.

Interesting that you think that it is "marketing speak". That was/is the case on the cheaper 120hz models that use onboard software to make them 240hz. If you were to buy a higher end model, they actually run 240hz and use software to emulate 480hz. Like all things electronic, they are always going to continue to speed things up - they always need to have a reason for you to pay more for one unit or another.
Either way, there isn't a significant benefit for watching standard tv for anything above 120hz as I'm guessing you already know. The big benefit is for 3D tv or gaming.
