GoW 3 has gameplay, scale, epicness, graphics going for it.
TLoU had a breathtaking, emotional, mood setting intro.
They are very different, still for me, TLoU had the best intro prequel to a story I have ever played, sucking you into the game and world, a very memorable experience even though with very limited gameplay, it gets my vote.

The last of us intro was a masterpiece. Gow was so boring in comparison, it felt like  a b-action movie

The only thing that impressed me about the God of War 3 intro was the scale of it all. Thumbing Poseidon in the eyes was fucking brilliant too, I guess... But thats really it.

The Last of Us hits you straight away, as youre not playing as the hero. Youre not playing as the burly, brutish man. Youre playing as the little, helpless girl and youre seeing shit fall apart around you. You can tell the bond that father and daughter have and when she finally gets shot at the end, the acting is better than anything else in this industry to that point (It gets beaten later on in the game).

One of the openings makes you say "Fuck yeah!". One of the openings makes you say "Oh... Fuck...". The emotional impact of TLoU's opening 15 minutes was incredible.

Like I've stated though, I'm rather torn by which one I prefer. They are both marvelous in my mind :3 You gave some valid points, cheers.

Awesome high-action climbing sequence with great cinematography, or atmospheric amble through the streets of a dying city?

From a gameplay perspective, undoubtedly God of War 3. From a story perspective, undoubtedly The Last of Us.

It's personal preference of course, and both are excellent openings, but I would just about give the edge to GoW3, though Infinite beats both of them for me.

A bit of off-topic, but Uncharted 2 intro > The Last of Us / God of War 3 intro.

God of War 3 was more epic, imo.
