I prefer the posts that make sense.

I personally don't like to see a user pulling the wool over the eyes of the other users. In my opinion, this is a disrespectful behaviour. In the end, what is a forum meant for? To fool people or to elucidate them? To hide the truth or to expand people's knowledge? To see who uses the biggest number of fallacies or to share facts and opinions so that we can learn from each other?

While you see Mummelmann's post as a failure, I see it as an epic post that serves as guide to any newcomer to the site that doesn't know John Lucas. That post is everything one needs to know (or at least the basics) about that guy. Like when there is a virus and someone lists all the cares (like wash your hands, don't share personal objects, etc.) needed to mitigate the virus proliferation.

Of course you don't see John's fallacies as a virus, you even like them as you say. But that's because we have different views about what a forum is (or should be).

You must be exhausted after your 26000 words reply to John Lucas. I will try to read as much as I can of it but it will be very time consuming. It's impressive how you could create in just 2 days a reply to what took 3 weeks for John to write.

I probably should also have called out John Lucas earlier for his guesswork on your cynical state of mind, as you point out that kind of stuff has no business in a thread like this and should not be even approached upon in his post. I guess I didn't fully see it in between all the cascades of rhetoric and I fully understand that you get pissed off at that attempt. You are also correct in identifying this as a suppression technique and are in the right for calling it out. Harshly.

However, you are in no position to make claims about someones mental health based on what you read on a forum. This is twice you have moved to diagnose John Lucas with a serious mental condition, something you know full well you do not have the competence nor knowledge to do. In fact, I immediately stopped reading your reply when I got to that section as that alone discredits the post in my mind. It is a shame, because I have been looking forward to your rebuttal, and it was going very well for a while too. That kind of posting is also what will probably get this thread locked again, to the joy of Seece and widespread sadness across the rest of VGChartz.

Anyway, I touched on this last night and got called out for being off topic so I will give a few comments on the parts I did read:

I think you are too set in your belief that the 'casual' market has forever moved on to tablets.

I think you are reading too much into the unfriendly practices of Nintendo and the liberating force of the PlayStation brand. Even if that was the case, this is decades in the past and it is very poor decision making if 3rd parties are carrying this fall out over into the 8th generation.

The best parts were when you linked John Lucas' description of the failed Sony business model to the current state of Nintendo. That was clinical and a complete dismantlement.

Also JL, you need to learn what troll means. All my posts have been on topic and I havn't troll anything or anyone.

I love that you barely post here but you've had so much time to talk about us in your PM's. Also glad my posts are realllly annoying you. I shoot down your OP with just a few words and it gets right under your skin.

John Lucas' post do make sense. Just because you don't agree with the conclusion doesn't mean there's not a coherent argument. Mummelmann is doing a great job of approaching the argument clinically. A bunch of other people are running from them like they are cancer. Why is that? The arguments leads to something most people don't see as the endgame of the 8th generation for sure, and they are styled in a very entertaining yet less than crystal clear language sure, but it's not that difficult to understand what is being said. I find it absolutely facinating how bent out of shape some people get over a post like this. It is one guys wild and bold vision for how the 8th gen will play out. Some agree, more secretly hope it wil happen, but most have a completely different view of what will happen. Yet, for some reason people want to have the thread locked, people banned, get bent out of shape and all manner of things.

And yeah, I don't see John Lucas' posts as a virus, I have faith in the human mind to read, comprehend, think and finally accept or reject all manner of ideas no matter how wild or inappropriate. I am not the least bit worried about the children or whatever and lose no sleep thinking that John Lucas is perverting the minds of hordes of drones who can't help but be misled into a false Nintendopia.

Damn Mummelmann, the first time I read through Lucas' wall of text, I didn't even notice how he kept referring to himself as a prophet or messiah. I believe this is how cults get started. Great post by the way, it was both entertaining and informative.
