Sega Says Wii U Sales Are A Concern, But Hopes That Sonic Can Turn Things Around

SEGA Europe president Jurgen Post says that the hopes Wii U and Nintendo 3DS exclusive Sonic Lost World can turn things around for the struggling console. Post says that he “is concerned” about the current sales of Wii U, but he hopes that Sonic can help things. He also believes that Nintendo’s E3 2013 showing has gone some way to helping the console.

“The Lost World might just be our best Sonic game yet. it is one of the games that can help them. I saw Nintendo’s briefing at E3 and it has a very strong line-up of games for Wii U. I think it’s helping people think that things might change.”

“Historically, Sonic games have always sold very well on Nintendo platforms, so it’s a good fit. And Nintendo and SEGA have always worked together in a positive way – the first game Sonic debuted on after we stopped making hardware was a Nintendo platform.”

That would be pretty ironic if the character that was created to kill Nintendo was the character that saved Nintendo.

Although the GAF thread is full of such comments, I'm going to bring one here:

"Wii-U will have to save Sonic too".

If advertised correctly, I'm sure it can help. But I don't think Sonic has half the pull he used to, no matter the quality of the game.

This, someone at Sega is smoking some good stuff. Lets not forget there is a 3DS version of this game, and if people dont think that wont have an impact on the WIi U version look no further than Lego City Stories. Plus this game isnt getting anywhere near the push and hyped that Generations did.

Defintely, I said this the during the time of the announcement. Sonic WILL sell Wii U's and it's lookin like he will be the defacto Wii U game for now too.

even though there is more hype for sonic, SM3DW will do much better and sell more WiiU's than Sonic would. That said i haven't been this hype for sonic....ever! My most anticipated WiiU game along with DK for 2013!

I have no doubt that 3D Land will sell more than Sonic (Wii U + 3DS)

I think 3d World will sell significantly more, but personally I think Sonic looks better.

I believe that Sonic should give the system a decent boost (better than Pikmin at least) and at least prep it for the incoming battle against M$ and Sony this fall.

No and no. The only reason Sonic could sell more than Mario this holiday is because it has more time to do so. 3 months v.s. 1 month.
