Of course they hated it. I can't think of a group that is more xenophobic than gamers. They're terrified of change and they express it through ridicule and hate.

Yes. January will look very interesting. Either Nintendo fans will laugh all the way to the bank, or the cockroaches (its what sony fanboys are called in Japan) will have their day in the sun. Time will tell.

"But look at that OLED!"
Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I'm glad they were wrong because the hate only fueled Nintendo and got to be huge. And I'm glad I got to see how big it was back in it's prime when I was a child and every other child I came across had one as well. Even now a ton of high schooler have a 3ds.

I like the guy saying Nintendrones live in an alternate reality and that he'll get a DS once it's in the bargain bins...
Another Virtual Boy, huh???
I wonder if he's still waiting...
Have a nice day...

No but it means doom and gloom articles don't affect the console outcome.
My initial reaction was negative because I loved my GBA so much and wanted to see it supported for several more years. I loved having essentially a portable SNES with new games.
Of all Nintendo handhelds I have owned I'd go
GBA
GB/GBC
3DS (likely move up to second in year or so)
DS
I do agree with the sentiment here that gamers like me are not a good indication of market reactions. If they were the Gamcube would have sold 100 million and the Wii 30 million.

Back when the DS and PSP launched, I wasn't really paying any attention to gaming media. My opinion of the PSP was that it was a slick handheld that actually could use the Internet. When I saw how slow it was, I thought that the Internet part wasn't worth it. Saw that they released movies on the PSP as well, was wondering how useful it was. Didn't care too much about it. Didn't know much about the PSP library. Knew one person with a PSP, and one person with a DS near launch time. The person with the DS actually played games, while the PSP was used more for multi-media. I thought both devices were good at their respective things, but I wanted a DS more than the two. Never got one.
Probably around 3 years ago, my big brother got a DS. It was around this time I started paying attention to console gaming again. I found out there were rumors about Luigi's Mansion having a sequel and was excited because of how much I liked the game. Soon after, e3 2010 came around and the 3DS was announced. I wasn't particularly excited and kind of ignored it. It was about August 2011 that I learned of the 3DS going to get that Luigi's Mansion sequel and even though I didn't think much of the 3DS, I knew I had to get it. September 2011 I ordered a $125 used 3DS (used once, for 5 minutes I realized after I got the package and checked the logs) but I had no games.
This is when I started looking online for 3DS games and found multiple websites such as this one and found out that Ocarina of Time 3D was out for the system. It was my first game and I instantly started to love the 3DS. It was also around that same time that I learned that many people thought the 3DS was doomed. Was kind of annoying because I saw the potential.
SO YEAH, I never had a DS but if I did have one, I probably wouldn't have thought it would fail.

Lol and for that reason alone it should be selling better than 3DS
