Back when the DS and PSP launched, I wasn't really paying any attention to gaming media. My opinion of the PSP was that it was a slick handheld that actually could use the Internet. When I saw how slow it was, I thought that the Internet part wasn't worth it. Saw that they released movies on the PSP as well, was wondering how useful it was. Didn't care too much about it. Didn't know much about the PSP library. Knew one person with a PSP, and one person with a DS near launch time. The person with the DS actually played games, while the PSP was used more for multi-media. I thought both devices were good at their respective things, but I wanted a DS more than the two. Never got one.
Probably around 3 years ago, my big brother got a DS. It was around this time I started paying attention to console gaming again. I found out there were rumors about Luigi's Mansion having a sequel and was excited because of how much I liked the game. Soon after, e3 2010 came around and the 3DS was announced. I wasn't particularly excited and kind of ignored it. It was about August 2011 that I learned of the 3DS going to get that Luigi's Mansion sequel and even though I didn't think much of the 3DS, I knew I had to get it. September 2011 I ordered a $125 used 3DS (used once, for 5 minutes I realized after I got the package and checked the logs) but I had no games.
This is when I started looking online for 3DS games and found multiple websites such as this one and found out that Ocarina of Time 3D was out for the system. It was my first game and I instantly started to love the 3DS. It was also around that same time that I learned that many people thought the 3DS was doomed. Was kind of annoying because I saw the potential.
SO YEAH, I never had a DS but if I did have one, I probably wouldn't have thought it would fail.
