Forums - Microsoft - Crytek: “Microsoft has been a really good partner”

Gaming Everything

Crytek technical art director Christopher Evans had praise for the studio’s working relationship with Microsoft while speaking with Autodesk.

Evans’ comments were brief, but the point came across clearly: “Microsoft has been a really good partner”, he said.

Evans told Autodesk:

“Microsoft has been a really good partner, and has been supporting us a lot. It’s really interesting to see what next-gen hardware can do.”

Later in the interview, Evans also confirmed that Ryse: Son of Rome’s main character “has about 150,000 triangles”.

I thought people only cared about their treatment of indie devs?

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I think crytek is considered an indie dev for some reason... I heard them recently reffered to as an indie developer...

They have four studios and 600 employees.

I think they mostly just they have a bad reputation with the smaller devs.

They're independent (as in they still need a publisher to release games) but I don't think you could call them "indie" in that sense.

Otherwise Epic and Insomniac are also "indie".

Doesn't surprise me. I think MS are probably hoping that Ryse will be the Xbox One's Gears and that the new Cryengine will take off next gen.

@Scoobes
I think MS is hoping for Black Tusk's game to be the new Gears.

I meant in terms of forming a strong relationship with a major Engine provider, not necessarily the game itself. With Gears MS and Epic showed off what the UE3 and 360 could do early in the gen.

Ofcourse they have a good relationship, they probably got a buttload of cash from MS :)
