Forums - Sony - Everquest Next looks like the next best MMO

MMO's will be huge next gen

It's actually one off the main reasons why i'm hyped for the PS4

Around the Network

”The environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry” (Jack Tretton, 2009)

I've never heard of this title. But the two of them look gorgeous in the second pic

Nothing can compete with WoW right now. I remember the first Everquest and while it wasn't bad it wasn't that good, too. I remember Ultima Online which started it all but have to give credtis for Everquest's 3d. And that's it. Many tried, all failed, and this will, too.

EverQuest was phenomonal!

That being said, it wasnt very accessable to the mainstream because of its brutal difficulty and high learning curve.  It was built for the Hardcore crowd, and the D&D guys - and it did all of that fantastically well.

I have to agree, EQ1 was fatastic, but with age, i would not play a game too hard at 36 years ^^ not enough time.

This said, if TESO fail to please me, i know this game may will ^^ these be the only 2 mmo i see me playing in futur.

P.S. sorry for the average english.

It's going to be free to play, right?

Any word on how they're planning on making money?

In a sense, their game model doesn't really fit with their business model.

The game model is pushing for player generated content and replay value.

The F2P model should be pushing for creator generated content and selling additional content.

I guess they could still do that maybe with equipment, player skins, or maybe with player creation tools (materials for building stuff in the environment).

Also, if this is coming on PS4, that's going to be really awesome and push me to get a PS4. F2P+Dynamic environment sounds like a business plan to me, but it sound fucking awesome for players. But hey, maybe if you treat the players right, that might end up being profitable in the end. Definitely get a large user base, that's for sure.

I didn't give a shit till I read F2P.
Oh, It's on!

It's just that simple.

I want to know why I'm seeing the word "innovate" here. What, exactly, is being innovated? I have only seen three videos so far. One battle, two constructing/destruction of environments. However, neither one of those videos show me what's the innovation people are claiming to see with the MMO.

Too much to explain and you need to have a deep MMO knowledge to understand... I think it is easy to give you some press read:

If SOE plans goes right then this game can be the next phenomenal in online multiplayer... and the others MMOs will need to catch it to be successful again... Sony is creating a new standard for MMOs.

I know of MMO's and have played a few.  However, I hear people using the word "innovate" very tightly around here and say how this and that isn't "innovation" at all.  I get what the innovation is supposed to be, but I keep seeing people use the word as if you need to do something completely new and by definition the MMO isn't. For an MMO, I would believe it is.  MMO's don't tend to have these kinds of elements, I know but for some reason other genres doing similar things aren't innovating?  Maybe you do judge it fairly, but how I keep seeing the word used this wouldn't be called an innovation.

Hummmmmm... Do you think Uncharted is innovative? I do but if you looks for each feature in the game you will see that previous games did the same but not not all together. Uncharted gets the good ideia from a lot of games and put it together in an amazing way.... that's make the delivery something innovative.

It's not innovative in a single feature... it is innovative in how you can put all together and enhancement the old ideias in a way that the final develiver for the game is a complete new experience.

I have issues with the language... so I don't know if I make what I think clear.

SOE is doing something that no other company did with MMO's before like ND did with Uncharted.
