I think this is a very interesting and legitimate question.  Obviously, using any hateful slur is disgusting and ignorant and should never be done.

Say you were in a situation where you were caught saying a slur on video.  Would you rather be caught saying a Racial, Ethnic, or Homophobic slur to the offended person(s).  Now assume that the video is posted online and people around the world judge you off it (much like what’s happening in the NFL right now).  Here's further clarification to the slurs.

Racial: You eff'ing "n-word"

Ethnic: You eff'ing "j-word"

Homophobic: You eff'ing "f-word" (3 or 6 letter version)

-Do any of them carry more weight than the others?  And publicly which would tarnish you the most?

Btw I am a straight, White, non-religious male. 

I wouldn't mind hearing opinions from people of different race, ethnic, and sexual preferences.

Here's my opinion.  Once again I don't judge people on skin color, ethnic background or sexual preferences.

Personally if I had to choose I would say the homophobic slur.  Not because I hate gays/lesbians.  I've known plenty and have nothing against them, nor do I disapprove with their sexual preferences.  In America, I would rank (from worse to least worse, in terms of backblast from the media) Racial, Ethnic, and Homophobic.  This is largely due to recent events which have inflamed racial differences and the fact that gays are somewhat discriminated against in the south (attempts at defense of marriage laws).

Also, gays are discriminated against openly (seemingly more than the other two) in many countries through laws and violence.

I guess I could rephrase the question to:  Which slur, if made public, would cause more backlash from society/media.

I don't share a popular viewpoint. The words by them self aren't so bad, they're definitely not nice.  It's the malice behind the person saying the word. Therefore the people using it with the most malice are when the slurs are most bad for me.

You know some mothers say they love their kids differently but equally? Yes, that's how I see this. All forms of hate, irrespective of difference, are equally bad. Though most people from my community might vote for racial due to their experiences.

They are all bad and unacceptable but racist slurs are even worse i think. Also, what is the "j-word" by the way? Jew, maybe? And the words themselves are only bad when depending on the context of how they are said. Like the N word is used in alot of rap songs but seemingly wrong for non-blacks to say, i don't really understand that
