Well, the PS4 has some hard core game fans so they will buy.

Outside of the hard core gamer, there isn't really anything unique about the PS4. It' doesn't have a Tablet or Fitboard like the WiiU, it doesn't have Kinect and SmartGlass like the Xbox One, it doesn't have an exclusive format (like Blu-ray) that the PS3 had. It's just a little game machine, all be it a very powerful one, with an optional super expensive Vita tablet if you want to add that too it.

They are going to have to work hard to convince people other than hard core fans the reasons why they have to buy their system. They will do fine at the beginning, and probably Japan.

I think if the PS4 doesn't sell that well, they will stay in gaming on other platforms, but cut back about half of their creation. They will dump all the 'marginal' money makers, and keep the biggest ones. I think the PS4 would have to have just miserable sales for them to drop it. Even if it sells like the GameCube they will still be making it.

I hear they might stop making TV's. It would be sad to see Sony become just an insurance sales company.

That doesn't mean anything, why would casuals buy an xbox one for kinect, if they can get a 360 with a kinect for a much cheaper price

Plus, the PS1 and PS2 and PS3 did fine without a needless gimmick

Needless Gimmick?

Wait, the PS1 had a CD Drive, the PS2 had a DVD drive, and PS3 had a Blu-ray player.

I forget when the 'needless gimmicky effect' of rumble was added to those.  But that's it was at one time.  Plus two sticks, etc.  Things are just needless gimmick till people like and expect them.

The Causals will buy an Xbox One with Kinect because it will do the most for them.  It's a fun party/exercise/dance/gaming console, plus they can talk to it and have it do stuff for them.  It should be the easiest and most convenience device of it's kind out there.

Like a Harmony Remote that you don't have to program and can talk to.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

well it would be interesting to see both nintendo and MS fanboys going at it for once

Sonys product pisses them both off, so they team up.

It would be like early Xmas!

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

No, I don't think anyone is so invested in a company that another one actually physically irks them.

I hope not, anyway.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

CD's and CD players were affordable when the PSX came out but the market expanded because of the PSX capabilities. Target audience was expanded by the PS2 because no one could afford DVD players and laser disc format died off.

The Wii...brought the most non-gamers, but the Playstation brought a large stable mass of an audience to gaming and kept their hunger for multimedia sated whilst keeping the videogames at the forefront.

Between the SNES and genesis there were above one hundred million users. The PSX sold above that by itself, thus proving the market expanded the gen after on his first go-round. It did something Panasonic failed to do earlier with the 3DO.

The third party support is a major part of the equation for many consoles, but Nintendos consoles were still considered toys and still aren't taken seriously to this day outside of the core gamers.

The N64 had some expensive games, by default it caused people to step away. Some of the launch gamers were super expensive. Nintendo didn't make it easy for people.

CD's and CD players were affordable when the PSX came out but the market expanded because of the PSX capabilities.

You have to proof this, otherwise this is worth nothing. Even when PSX was released CDs were absolutely common media, there were even portable cd-players around - for a long time.

I have to prove that? Compact disc players first came out in the 80's bro and were they were the evolution after Sonys Walkman was created. By the mid 90's when the PSX came out CD players were already profitable and had dropped in price. Less than a decade later they would be phased out by MP3. The torch for multimedia was passed from Sony to Apple.

But what has PSX to do with it?

Sony did in their first gen what Sega and 3DO could not. They properly funded first, second and third party and put Nintendo at odds with developers and maintaining the CD format while turning the Playstation into a CD player. Most people dont talk about this but the Playstation also played video CD's. When people find out how many people were behind the 3DO it would cause everyone to wonder why it failed. The PSX increased the CD marketshare 100 million, thus decreasing the price of CD formats even further than it already was. By the time the PSX dominated CD players were dirt cheap and ready for an upgraded format.

The casuals won't buy the most expensive console out there, if so, the PS3 would have destroyed the 360 straight away, And how did you ever consider a blu ray player a gimmick, that's just nonsense

And stop overestimating the kinect please, because most casuals will buy a 360 with a kinect way before an xbox one "it is the cheapest option after all"

Honestly Sony gets a bit too much credit for that. Sega had already made it "cool" for teenagers/adults to play consoles with their buddies.

Technically no one is stopping anyone from buying a console. Psychologically some are just stuck to a brand and cannot stand when brands hurt their favorite brands chances of success, even subconsciously. Sony is the natural choice to hate for Nintendo, departed Sega remnants, and newly growing MS fans. Everyone hates a jack (Tretton) of all trades.

In my opinion if Sony died, there would also be a new IP drought. It would be felt strongly as well. Where Nintendo sticks to the classics and MS cannot create enough that stick, Sony keeps going and going and going.
