HA HA HA HAAAAA!!! Wii U is outselling PS4..take that Sony fans ;)
Nintendo fans do not care about third party software, they care about mario games and other first party software. And from what have been show, the fans will be getting their games. You can say they failed everyone else.
More importantly it failed its non-fans.
There are people who are super happy that more games exist with Mario/Zelda/Pikmin/Smash/Kart at all. Nintendo serves them well. Unfortunately there aren't enough of those people to keep it on UK shelves.
How is Nintendo failing me with Pikmin 3, Animal Crossing and Mario&Luigi Inception Team (yeah I life in Europe, already enjoying these games, sorry)? I can't think one day of the past few weeks when I didn't use my 3DS.
IMO, it is the fans, who failed Nintendo in the Gamecube era that started this whole mess with core gamers and Wii/WiiU
I'm not disappointed. I love my WiiU. Sure there haven't been too many games so far. We live in an imperfect world, we have to be thankful for what we do receive instead of expecting more and more.

I have to disagree there.. fans like me stuck it out through the N64 and Gamecube eras despite the dominance of Sony and the rise of the Xbox because we got genuinely amazing and groundbreaking games almost every year of their respective life spans.
Unfortunately I can't say the same for the Wii, which started off pretty good with Twilight Princess, Prime 3, Galaxy and Brawl (even though I loath Brawl for a number of reasons), and of course the phenomenon that was Wii Sports. After that things got pretty rocky for us long-time Ninty fans, with only a few bright spots here and there like Galaxy 2 and DKC returns. The Wii U seems to be continuing this trend of just offering more of the same, except it's suffering through an identity crisis, trying to please the "core" gamers why trying desperately to hold onto the casual crowd that has left for greener pastures, and this is a no-win situation for Nintendo.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
The truth of the matter is, none of the big three care about "fans". They only care about present consumers. Nintendo crapped on their original "fans" by releasing software (Gamecube era) that didn't innovate beyond their previous games. Sony crapped on their original "fans" by taking away BC even though Ken said it would always be there till the end of time on all their consoles, putting online gameplay behind a wall and Microsoft crapped on their original "fans" by trying to take what started out as the most hardcore brand, and turning into the least.
The truth of the matter is, this is business. Yes, we are all lucky that their business is providing us with games to play, but don't get caught up in the whole loyalty thing. They aren't loyal to you. They're only loyal to money.
The true failures are Microsoft, since they weren't even worth mentioning in the OP.
