So big I only just heard about it a few months ago.

You know this a troll attempt when you call SMT a big IP. |
So, it's not a big IP? My bad - I thought it was a big game.

It's big in that a lot of work was put into it, but none of the SMT games really sell all that well.

That so? Tell me, what did Persona 4 Golden sell first week in America? |
No idea. Does that change what I posted or have anything to do with what I posted?

I guess SMT is one of those titles that is more popular on the internet.
tbone51 said: Shin Megami Tensei FTW lol, To the people who said it wont sell well at all (like 10-20k) cuz it was rated M....... Looks like you were a little wrong |
I did my part buying the game and getting a friend to buy it as well. Still off my very optimistic +90K prediction. :D

Well, the original American title of Persona 4 was Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4. I figure since you seem to think 75k is a bad opening for this series, let's look at how well the last release sold in America its first week.
I'll answer my own question, though. P4G sold ~48k its first week. So it's clear I'm not picking on the Vita, Persona 3 Portable for PSP sold 16k its first week, Persona 4: Arena for PS3 and 360 combined sold 50k, and neither of the Devil Survivor games on DS sold more than 15k their first week, nor did the 3DS remake of the first Devil Survivor manage 50k.
In fact, I can't find a Shin Megami Tensei or Persona game on record with a higher opening than 75k in America. Maybe some of the PS2 games managed it, but we don't have such data on those. What do you think?
Emm guys... Shin Megami Tensei IV didn't "Bombed". The game sold very well. Its not a new IP and they have "low production values" compared to other games as Atlus knows how much this games sell. By their standards it's very good. It is not a "AAA" game. People should really investigate about the franchise.

There guys is a nice article on various games of the franchise! It is really well written and it has a lot information!

My only problem is that the production values for SMT3 were bigger than for SMT4. That's a little annoying.
Atlus was pomping games on the PS2 last gen with like 7 SMT games that all had higher production values than SMT4 actually lol
I don't know what happened.

Yeah they where but SMT 4 is pretty cool in it's own way! This franchise is very niche and has a very strange feel to them!
The problem some reviews express is that the world map looks like a mess. That you are represented by a blue dot in a not so nice overworld. But then again the SMT series, at least the mainline, always uses that dot for the map. Also if you want a really horrible overworld map, play Tales of Destiny for the Playstation one. That has one of the most horrible overworlds in a JRPG period! xD
