Xbox One features Wi-Fi Direct, the ability for the Xbox One to act as an access point for Wi-Fi enabled devices, and partner with other Wi-Fi Direct devices.

Smartglass-enabled tablets and smartphones will be able to act as a controller for Xbox One with latent performace as good as an Xbox One wireless controller.  In terms of a Smartglass device as a second screen, this will largely depend on the device and the GPU performance for video compression/decompression.  However, higher end devices should be able to provide 20ms latency for remote gaming up to 600 ft away (Line of Sight) or 300 ft otherwise.

Also, if game developers add support for it, the Xbox One will support keyboard and mouse via Wi-Fi Direct.

Whoever wrote that must be smoking some good shit.

The remote gaming part sounds promising though. Having smartglass on your lap while playing with a controller doesn't seem to be too much of a hassle... Though I doubt that's what they have in mind.

Additionally, it makes the Wii U appear to be miles ahead of them.

I wrote that, and I'm don't do drugs, nor do I drink alcohol.  So.

Do you want to start over?

Interesting in theory... mostly pointless. I guess direct smartglass would be good, but I haven't had issues with latency so far.

The recent Battlefield 4 trailer showed off second screen stuff for every platform, so I don't really think that this is a particularly exciting development

I just hope that developers do treat Windows 8 as a second screen device so I can use my laptop for these phone/tablet apps as some might be useful

Microsoft copying Nintendo (just like Sony and everyone else) confirmed!

smartglass is already on XBox 360 granted it is not widely exploited by devs it's been out for a while...

then again everybody is technically copying nintendo since the 80's :D

why would you want to use touch controls when you have a great xbox one controller?

i don't as a replacement but a complement could be nice.... form minigames like in the first bioshock 1 it could have been nice to use a touche interface to move those damn pipes arround... inventory navigation in rpg could be nice.... maps navigation in sandbox... but as straight up pad replacement nope...

I don't know what you mean by game controller. Does that mean that you can control the menu? I don't see how it could be used as a game controller. Also, tablets and smart phones will also be usable in PS4 games as well for secondary screens.

In this case, a second screen as done with the Wii U controller.

The Xbox One is running the game, but it's being played on the Smartglass device.

Perfect for everyone with a tablet and/or smartphone but it was expected.

why not connect this controller on your mobile/tablet if you want to?

That'll be a useful feature if you have a smartphone with buttons. Xperia Play sales will go through the roof!

Microsoft has a patent for a "Controller" layout for a tablet or smartphone using touch.

Not all game types would use it.  An FPS, for example, wouldn't.  Not for playing the main game, for sure.  But puzzle games, certainly could allow for both the Xbox One wireless controller, Kinect, or Smartglass.

so im going to be constatly looking down to see where i press a button beause i cant feel? It wont work
