That's make me thinks the "sources" from DF didn't know for sure at they are talking... they are trying to guesstimate instead to have the real numbers lo.

awesome fucking reply!!
JoeTheBro said: DF is doing a very bad job of explaining this, but it really sounds like how RAM works on vita and many mobile devices. While playing the game has 5.0 GB, going by the update, and it always has 5.0 GB. Flex RAM comes into play the second the player presses the PS button. The game drops .5 GB of non important ram and frees up space for the OS. When the game is launched again this half a gig is quickly loaded back in. Effectivly to the user games have 5 GB and the OS has 3.5, adding up past 8. |
If this is the case, it may not be so bad. Though, it does go back to the question of, why does the OS need 3.5GB of RAM?
Paging to a disk cache when task switching isn't any where near as bad as paging to a disk cache while the game is running.
@ walsufnir
Because from what I've heard, these are not the final dev kits. Hence, they still only have 8GB of RAM for everything, including dev functions. The final ones will have more RAM, probably 10GB-12GB. That could be wrong, but there is still the possibility. Which is why I said I would laugh my ass off IF that turned out true.
@ dirtyp
Wow, a few reasonably short paragraphs is a wall of text to you? I guess it may be true what some say, that our youth is becoming lazy these days. Ugh, reading.
Also, your post was disingenuous, which lead me to misinterpret your post. The TV/multimedia focus only played a small role in what lead to the uproar. It was the DRM BS that was slowly leaked out after that caused the vast majority of that. After that, anything else was just fuel for the fire.
My point still stands, however. That was the general gaming public that reacted that way. Not just some random Sony fanboys making a fuss over something that's not really a negative. Which is what we have here, only with MS fans as the culprits, instead.

You don't have to wait for Microsoft to show everyone how to use that much RAM, Sony advocate and apparently PS4 Fanboy, Johnathan Blow was talking about how he's already using 5GB on the PS4 and how it was a good thing that the PS4 gave developers 8GB of memory to work with.

EDIT: Added link.
WOW. This thread just exploded. Can't be bothered to go through it. What is the big deal anyways. Ram can be downloaded for free these days.

This thread has exploded just like the Ethernet-Gate for the Wii U.
But when was it that DF became unreliable? I'd guess about 24 hours ago for some people. So many times I saw people saying to wait for their word, and now their word means nothing? This is all a tad confusing...

Why not? Sony has already shown Microsoft how to handle a console with Microsoft making the XboxOne more like the PS4 with all the reversals. So maybe it's Microsoft's turn. ;)
kurasakiichimaru said: Not really earth-shattering, I doubt devs would go and waste the entire RAM at this early part of the gen. |
well, sony's spokesperson nr. 1 jonathan blow complained about the xbox one with "only" 8gb and 5gb free for games because his game already needs 5gb and like he said "it's only an indie game".
if this will be true i'm looking forward to see him tweeting the whole day how bad it is for ps4 now but i'm sure he won't.
