Forums - Microsoft - Will The X1's Exclusives Dwindle Away?

So during the first couple years of the 360 it was awsome, Mirosoft was pumping out exclusive after exclusive after exclusive, but after that it slowly dwindled away.  Right now it looks like the same thing is happening with the X1, here are the actual first party exclusives for the X1:

-Kinect Sports Rivals...idk how many X1s that's gonna sell.

-Forza Motorsport 5-Microsoft's big racing app for the next gen, great that its coming from a first party studio.

-Killer Instinct-Idk if you can include this game under a first party title because its not being made by Rare, its being made by a third party studio, so this one is pretty much up in the air.

That is it, that is all of Microsoft's first party games for the X1.  Remedy is not owned by Microsoft, therefore they are not a first party studio, therefore Quantum Break is not a first party game.  They also don't own Epic Games.  Everything else is third party, and you have to think how long can they just keep buying out third party games.  With the increased cost of the games to make and how hard it is for Microsoft and Sony to actually turn a profit, I don't think they can keep it up forever.  Especially when you consider Microsoft is selling the X1 at a loss, which means its gonna be even harder to turn a profit, which means less money to spend on third party games.  So what do you guys think, are we seeing history repeat itself or will the exclusves keep coming for the whole life of the X1.

Yes it is, it's using MS's L.A Studio and Remedy and MS have said it's firsty party.

Plenty of third party exclusives stayed that way as well, Alan Wale, Gears, Conviction.

Can you give me a source because I haven't found any articles saying Remedy is owned by Microsoft.  Having an exclusive deal to make a game is different, if they are first party they have to make games only for Microsoft forever, if its just an exclusive deal then after that is up they can go multiplatform if they want, just like Bunjie did.

Id expect much of the same. Get people in, then back off anything that doesn't sell 4 mil and up.

A core gamer saying they don't know anybody buying Kinect Sports........rly?
It isn't meant for people like us. The sales of them speak for themselves.

Funny since X1 has more announced games for its first year, some people are compensating by looking into the negative hypothetical future.

Also, 2010 was a huge year for 360 games.

Funny how you twisted it to say announced games, Sony has said they have more games coming out in the first year than Microsoft...Also then tell me the kind of people that are buying a $500 to play Kinect Sports, I never said it wouldn't sell well, but its not a system seller.

To be fair what anyone should care about is what announced. Especially since we don't know what those announced games will be. Sony may have more arcade titles in development. The games left for Microsoft may only be arcade titles. If that is the case than people will have a different outlook.

Well Sony said all their first party studios are making PS4 games, I don't think Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Impact Games or Guerilla Games are making arcade games.

20 in its "first year". You can take Naughty Dog off that list in this case due to Last of Us being fairly recent. Santa Monica is making that Victorian era game, Guerilla is making Killzone. Not sure what Impact is known for. But basically there is a lot of room for indie games...don't be naive to think they are mostly AAA niche titles.

And furthermore, I think its better to be excited about what we know about as opposed to hyping up as-of-yet-non-existant games

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Well, considering that Sony is greatly padding their 20 games with 3rd party indie titles, it really all comes down to how much weight you would put into those as opposed to retail offerings. I consider everything equal, but my beliefs are far from universal.

Doesn't change that your thread sounds like a defense mechanism

The same people that bought a Kinect for 360 to play Kienct Sports......the trick is to recognize that other demographics exist outside our own, whether or not you think they matter.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Sony did not include indie games in the 20 first year exclusives number they said.  That number would be way higher if they included all the indie games.  They included the indie games in the 100+ games they said would be available on PS4 in the first year.  Also how is my thread a defense mechanism?

I thought Sony just said "20 exclusives", without being specific on the indie/retail ratio. But we shall see.

But otherwise, you are painting a negative picture about X1, despite their game offerings looking very varied and compelling, by referring to their mistakes in the past, in some effort (intended or unintentional) to knock what they are doing.

I didn't say Remedy were first party, I said QB was, and it uses their (Microsoft) L.A studios for the acting parts, it's first party. Google it and you should find some links.

Naughty Dog has 2 seperate teams, they have been making a PS4 game every since they finished with Uncharted 3.  Considering how fast Naughty Dog pushes out games, it is fully reasonable to assume they could get their PS4 game out in the first year.  I never heard of a Victorian era game being made by Santa Monica games, source, and what platform is it on?  Impact games has made God of War Chains of Olymus, Ghost of Sparta and R&C Size Matters.  I don't think all the 20 games have to be AAA games, but have to be quality games.  A game like The Witness that looks amazing for an indie game and I've seen it high up on people's most anticipated games.  Its not like all of Microsoft's exclusives are AAA titles, I mean Kinect Sports Rivals doesn't scream AAA to me.

Well companies always get shit for the misakes they've made, I remember people saying Sony was gonna charge as much as possible for the PS4, being $600 or $500.  For all we know Microsoft learned their lesson just like Sony and the exclusives will keep coming for the whole life cycle.

Ok fair enough

First of all how many stealth troll threads are you going to make? Second of all you forgot Black Tusk's new game and all of the other MS published exclusives they have yet to announce. They announced that 15 MS published exclusives are getting announced for release in just the first year. None of those games will be going to any other platforms. MS has built up studios and will have a lot more exclusives this gen.
