Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One Records the Last 5 Min of Your Gameplay (PS4 15 Min Confirmed)

PS4 3 times the power of X1 confirmed

(LOL)

I'd definitely turn that feature off, it'd destroy HDD's. (Think of constant writing, rewriting over deleted space, it would wear out the HDD health over the course of a year or two for a hardcore player).

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.
Proud pre-orderer of 2 PS4's and an Xbox One.

Currently Playing: Dark Souls II, South Park
Playstation 4: MGS V GZ, Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2k14.

Ok, someone who wants to record LP's still needs to use a capture card on the Xbone? Nice job, MS.

The competitor offers 15 minutes which isn't that long, either.

15 minutes is satisfactory for a gaming video. 20 minutes is the ideal length these days, but I doubt many would complain about a 15 minute video instead. 5 minutes though is hardly even worth the effort :/

Both of these systems options are pointless when you can just use the streaming service for the entire game. The game then saves to the service.

15 / 5 = 3

Half-Life 3 confirmed

Edit: just kidding

Will never ever use this feature but if its going to record 15 minutes every time I play, then the console's memory will be filled up with useless gameplay videos that I will never watch and will eventually have to delete.
I also find the share button on the PS4's controller to be pointless.

You will never need to delete because this "space" is reserved only for that... you will never see that happening.

"The idea is you're always recording," Lobb said of the Xbox One's game DVR feature, nicknamed 'Project Upload'. "The last five minutes of any game you're playing are always being stored on your hard drive."

"Say you're playing online and you just did the best thing ever - you can't pause as you're playing online," Lobb continued. "You can say 'Xbox, record that' and it'll grab the last 30 seconds of gameplay for you to play around with later."

UPDATED: Sony confirmed 15 minutes for PS4 after DigitalFoundry fuzz.

This claim was misheard and led to some reports suggesting PS4 captures "seven" minutes of gameplay data, while other articles claimed the console records "several minutes". But on Monday a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe told CVG PS4 will continually record 15 minutes of gameplay data, as initially reported.

Is it 5 minutes or 30 seconds? I'm guessing the 30 seconds is only for that quick command, and 5 is a more in depth manipulation?

@MoHansie-
Good thing both consoles have removable non-proprietary hard drives.

Both.

30 seconds via voice command withou stop to play the game (Xbox Record)... it record without manipulatio the last 30 seconds and save on the disc or send to YouTube (?).

5 minutes via paused game... you stop, open the video editing tool and can save or upload manually.

So the 5 minutes works more for offline games and the 30 seconds for online games (online have no pause after all).
