The GameCube would be pretty much the perfect controller if the D-pad was bigger, there were two Z buttons and they weren't a pain to press, it had a SNES diamond shaped button layout, and the second analog stick was the same size as the first one.

That is the 360 pad sure, but I find the ergonomics of the GCN pad to be more comfy. I liked the Z-click on the analog triggers too.

make a new one for the Wii U with those improvements, and bam! :

dude the nintendo 64 just feels perfect especially for platformers, gamecube was good except the second analogue could have been better for first person shooters. the wii is motion controlled which is cool but not really my preference. the nes and snes controllers create classic gaming goodness. I love handhelds so for me the 3ds xl is very comfortable. It would be perfect if it was about 1 inch to 2 inches thicker. Love nintendo!! Kepp making great games!

They really should offer this as an alternative to the Pro Controller, but what's with the random mic?

Well, it suggests that you won't need to connect your microphone to the GamePad:

But I agree that it looks more like a mic made for blowing/talking mini games and features rather than a light. Not to mention that a mic port seems absent.

I've played hundreds of hours of Wii FPS controls with my wrist sitting on my leg, and I never got sore from it.

I'm with BossPuma, it's a fantastic way to play, very accurate and immersive. I even prefer it over a mouse as I feel more of a connection to the actual act of aiming. MP3 was the best but Goldeneye, Red Steel 2, World at War, Black Ops II, and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 rocked as well.

Agreed, Puma and Curl.

I disagree.  My wrist would hurt after 2-3 hours of playing FPS on Wii.

That's too bad.  Considering the play time that I've logged using this method (and Curl above as well), It's clearly a case by case situation to be generous.

Guess it depends on the person's wrist and how much they can take.  I logged in over 300-500 hours for both WaW and BO.  So I probably played at least 600 hours of both games.

Do you play with your arm completely rested on your lap, a pillow, or an armrest?  It's really comfortable and all it takes is very subtle wrist movement to where the pointer can access any part of your TV screen via proper placement of the sensor bar.

If so, then yeah, that kinda sucks for you, I guess.  There were times in Prime 2 where I was running around completely lost and didn't even care just because the sensation of maneuverability that said set-up provided was so liberating and fun.

Nope, I used to play FPS (stopped playing them but will go back and finish Goldeneye on Wii soon) with my elbow resting on my thigh and my arm slanted up holding the Wiimote.  That is probably why my wrist would start to strain.  I never rested my entire arm on my leg or pillow.  I also would lean forward (hunched over kind of) while playing.  Basically, my whole posture while playing FPS wasn't good for my body.  However, I felt more into the game in this position.  Loved the pointer controls though and it made me dislike dual analog the more I played with Wiimote/nunchuck.
