This is something I found particularly interesting.

"More impressively, the controllers automatically recognize who is holding the controller through the camera. When the controller is passed from player to player, the games automatically load individual controller profiles for that player. Now passing controllers around during a game won't require you to back out to the options menu and change look inversion."

So without touching anything but the controller -- no buttons -- the Xbox One signs the player in, loads their profile, and reconfigures the controller for them.  And it can do that for every player, whether you've logged onto the console or not (Internet required).

Impressive. Most impressive.

That is impressive but I feel some people will find a way to make that into a negative. It seems Kinect 2.0 will be leagues better than the old one.

It is impressive but I dont believe this is something new to the industry.  If i am correct PS4 does the same thing.  Also I believe PS Move did this.

Not knocking MSFT.  Afterall my fav controller seems to be getting better (XB controller), but it really isnt something new.  im more interested in the impulse triggers tbh.

Yes, but the PS4 Camera isn't included in-box.  The PS4, with a PS4 Camera, will detect the controller.  It is supposed to be usable for signing on a player, though this particular feature hasn't actually been demonstrated.  However, if you and I are sitting right next to each other on a couch, and you're Player 1 and I'm Player 2.  On the PS4 -- as it stands right now with the features shown -- if you and I exchange controllers, you will be me and I will be you.  The only difference is that, if we're playing split screen, the screen would switch sides.   The PS4 as it has been demonstrated knows who the player is by the color of the light bar.  Not by who is holding it.

The Xbox One actually detects who is holding the controller.  When an Xbox One is connected to the Internet, it identifies a player, pulls down the profile, and logs that user into the console.  The controllers use IR LEDs, so no visible light and those IR LEDs are all hidden behind the same green, clear plastic in the controller.  If we're sitting on a couch and exchange controllers, and you were Player 1 and I was player 2, you'd still be Player 1 and I'd still be Player 2, but if we're split screen our side of the screen would change and the control profile and Player indicator on the controller would change.

Now, if Sony does actually feature an auto sign-in process, then they could be on par.  But again, as of right now with the features demonstrated, they're not the same.  And without the PS4 Camera, they're nothing similar.

Buy it with the 100$ you save.

well nope I'm buying the XB1 and a game with the 200 bucks I saved last gen buying an XB360 instead of a PS3.... and I still have 40 bucks for an XBL subscription.... it's great to be an XB fan... you get always the best for less if you stick with the right team.....

hey no hard feeling.... you could have set up a target on your forehead on that one I couldn't have shot better :)

Lol the 200$ you saved 7 YEARS AGO.

Oh god. shots fired lmao!

Around the Network

So if i get banned from xbl i can Now brick my friends xb1 by grabbing the controller? Excellent!
Honestly the features like this sound awesome, but i do wonder what the load time is on it. If the profile is on the system itself id imagine it should be faster than manually changing the settings (which doesnt take that long really) and via online should be relatively fast as well. Overall the more i hear about kinect the more useful it sounds for gaming. I still have to say this though...

I really wished someone had tapped this. Would like to see it.

New Kinect 10x as powerful!  There is some super impressive tech in there.

Hopefully Major Nelson taped it and will upload a video from the event.  I would be surprised if Microsoft didn't officially tape it.

Quote Major Nelson, "Sorry it was not recorded. We shared some good information . . .I think the audience enjoyed it."

 :-/  So Surprise!

But I can't imagine Nobody taped it.  Hopefully the Comic Con people did.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

wowowo hold it right there.... while I love the profile loading Kinect feature and think it is great step forward towards removing unnecessary steps into the gaming process and living you more time to whatever you want to do with your entertainment time... even if it is one second at a time....

where did you read that it will load profiles over XBL????? I can believe if you have the profile on the box it will work.... but I have a hard time believing it will load it through XBL....

that would some of the great amazing power of the cloud right there.... now I would even be blown away if it works just with the profiles of the people in your friend list.... that would be some bad ass trick right there.... but I'd still settle for a local load of existing profiles on the box....

They show the instant profile recognizing here, but it may be that each Xbox One has to learn who you are.  But I would think they could add that as a feature, where it search your friends profiles if a new person shows up.

I am not sure the current one may already do that if you login and download your gamer tag.   It's picked out my friend a few times when it's trying to figure out a person, and he has never gone through the Kinect Calibration at my place.

Better the devil I know.  If you really going to be worried about the NSA, you should think about the companies that are not in the spotlight.

I'm more interested in the triggers as well. I hope it isn't too different and I can't get used to it.

Same here.  Everybody who has used it says it is pretty amazing though so Im pretty positive it will be great XD

interesting name for a convo on the NSA... :-p

Honestly I feel that if you're not doing anything wrong or illegal than the NSA stuff shouldn't be to much of a worry at this point in time... I mean even small time things probably don't even blip on the radar for the NSA, but I do think certain technoligies are paving the way in a big brother fashion. I don't think it matters at this point (again) and for most people I think the benefits far weigh the ?"superstitions" (for lack of better term) in regards to gaming. Personally, I just don't like MS all that much in general, and after the initial reveal I'm turned off from the X1 (I was open to it, still on the fence). However, it does seem like a majority of the innovation MS has brought to the table gets swept under the rug pretty easily and have only heard of a few features via word of mouth rather than reputable resources... All in all still neat and cool features (MS does do some excellent software), but slightly concerning in very few regards.

I guess that means you have to play Xbox One in a lighted room for the Kinect to see you. I wonder how close or far away you have to sit from the screen. Not really wowed by that feature, but I'm feeling neutral about it.

Actually, the Kinect doesn't need any light to see you.  Start at 1:00 to wach just the part about it seeing in the dark.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi5kMNfgDS4

I think they said as close a 1m (3 feet) at least 12 feet away, but I think it can go more.

Yeah but his profile is on your XB360.... what I'm saying is if I come to your house and play on your XB360 today or XB1 in a few months.... I'm not sure it would fetch my profile (actually I'm sure it doesn't with the 360) over the internet and XBL..... now I'm sure it is technically possible..... but that would be quite insane to think that azure/orlean cloud server could process information your kinect 2 sends and fetch a profile over millions of other recorded profiles all over the world.....
if it can and will do that.... people can tell me what ever they want against the power of the cloud and gaming.... I will be impressed no matter what and will be sold for the long run....
if I can go to anybody's place who has an XB1 and XBL.... grab a controller and within sconds have my profile downloaded and all without me doing anything.... that would be freaking impressive.... you imagine what that could mean for the future ???

No more need for credit cards, IDs, passeport, keys and lobby desk for hotels etc.... you can be recognised by a freaking camera all over the world... you add a couple checks on top such as print scanner like you use a signature on a check today.... and I wont need a wallet anymore or  keys....
heck I go in vaccation no need for a welcome desk I go straight to my room it bills me and all but on top of that when I arrive it knows already my habbits sets up the AC to my taste... talks back to me to tell me what would be nice to check out around here sets up the right mini bar drinks to be put in ... etc.... and all that for really cheap when you see how much palace hotels today invest to have data base on their big customers....
