Even though the QTE's are optional, the combat is still pretty bad. It could've been when you damage an enemy enough, you can hold one trigger of both, and push a face button to execute a finishing move which would give you 8 total finishing moves. Or, when they are damaged enough, you can press B to grab them and push a face button to execute a finishing move. That's how I would of preferred it.

They are so optional the move happens anyway, it takes any sort of skill of a QTE out of the game. It is a QTE where there is no punishment for missing the button, how unbelivably stupid is that!

They are optonal... You don't have to initiate the QTE, you can keep pressing the action button to kill them. But you are right, once you go into the QTE, you can't die.

I don't expect much from Ryse. Crytek is really good when it comes to graphics (almost unmatched, in fact), but making compelling games with interesting gameplay certainly isn't their forte.

Gotta disagree with you. Crysis 1, Warhead and Crysis 2 were all good games. Really good actually.

Crysis 1 in particular was a gem of a game in my opinion. Its highly underated.

I bought Crysis for $5 two weeks aago. Haven't started hope it is good.

Unfortunately most people who play Crysis 1 don't like it.

I didnt like it either and that was after installing and playing the opening levels multiple times. Its only when i really got into the game that I understood what makes it a great game. The game is centred around fun and free gameplay, especially the first half of the game. The second half is more linear but it has an interesting story.

The graphics are also amazing. Now take into account that this game came out around the same time the PS3 launched and WOW!

All the previews of it I read were just incredibly negative about all these things.

I think I am with the OP here, great graphics, great setting, but very questionable gameplay

I also agree. The game looks like it will have a great story, but the combat is the worst thing in the game.

I don't mind that kind of system but it can't happen for every enemy that you kill. The slomo/optional QTE needs to be earned through some mechanic. That will make the QTE less irritating and more spectacular since it happens rarely and could possibly assist with more challenging sections.

Edit : Ignore my comment, its flammable.

I really wish more games would focus on Roman Era, as its just amazing history wise.. lots of good/bad things that happened that make great story telling moments.

I've not seen anything that would suggest that the combat is anything like AC or Batman...it certainly doesnt seem like that to me.

With regards to the game, I know we can all get an impression that a game is going to be good/bad/average from videos (as soon as i saw the Colonial Marines videos i knew it was going to be poor)... but we should at least give the game a chance considering not a great deal has been shown about it so far.

So for me, would certainly say, let's not dismiss it just yet, great history time frame, gameplay "more info required".

Its nice to see Sony fans hating on this game and then praise Last Of us and uncharted.
aren't they both linear as hell?

Many games have a linear path, but its how you present it to the player that matters. For example most are point to point in some respect, but its how you can get there that matters. In Last of Us (less so in uncharted)... you can craft items that help, you can use different attack methods, you can even sneak past and not do anything.

The way i like to look at it (and not saying this about Ryse as i havent seen enough about it)... but Call of Duty and Dragons Lair are both linear, but are totally different playing experiences. Nothing is wrong with linear... but some are better than others.

When did I critisize it for being linear, I haven't even heard anyone say that.

Rome II will keep my Roman desires satisfied this year

Having said that, if I did buy an Xbox One, i would probably buy this, but it certainly isn't enough to be a system seller to me
