Forums - Sony - God Eater 2 Overtakes Monster Hunter 4 on Amazon Japan’s Best Sellers, Did The Vita Find its Killer Application?

I'm assuming that PSP+Vita of God Eater 2 will do 600-800k combined.

And MH4 isn't doing 4+ million. At least not without extensive bundling and expansions/re-releases.

I was talking about the Vita version alone.

Anyway, you have said several times already that MH4 won't reach those numbers, care to exaplain why?

Animal Crossing: New Leaf is nearing those numbers with digital (Japan Alone) and it's not fair to use MH3G as a reference since it's the 4th re-release. PSP MH achieved it, why can't 3DS MH do the same?

I dunno, man. All I'm seeing is that the 2nd generation of MH games outsold the 3rd generation of MH games by a lot.

MH3 came out on Wii.  A home console where MH series has largely failed comapred to the portable series.

Then MH3G came out on 3DS when the system has less than 3 million units sold.  The game has now sold almost 2 million units.    That's one hell of a ratio and would impossible for it to sell more than the install base of the hardware itself.

Combined, MH3/G/U has sold 4.5million units.

You also have yoru generations mixed.   Gen 2 consisted of MH2 on PS2, MH Freedom 2 on PSP and MH Freedom Unite on PSP.  Combined, they are about 5.2 million.   Gen 3 consists of MHTri on Wii, MH Portable 3rd on PSP and PS3, and MH 3 Ultimate on Wii U and 3DS.  Combined, they total about 9.1 million.

And for the record, Capcom lists Monster Hunter Freedom Unite at just 3.3 million, not 5.37 million.

Unite did over a million in its "The Best" release.

Either it didn't sell 1 million or Capcom combined the sales of the intial release and the reduced price re-release.  Otherwise you'd see 2 entires in that list I posted which displays ALL Capcom titles to sell 1 million units or more.

What are you on about? You can get the PSP version of the first game on PSN and play it on the Vita.

I did some digging around.

Capcom said they planned on 4 million in shipments here.

The Best version must be combined because Famitsu/MC reported it did over 1.1 million. There are another cheaper re-release that sold a few 100k. Either Capcom's numbers are out of date, because Famitsu/MC had it over 3.4 million over 3 years ago...

I don't think it will reach the heights of the PSP version, because the series has died down in popularity a bit and the 3DS isn't as popular as the PSP (ironic for a handheld that supposedly was built to rape the PSP). Things could change down the line, but I still don't think it'll do 4+ million without extensive bundling and many expansions/re-releases.

if monster hunter did 4 million in japan in PSP ... what made you think monster hunter 4 wouldnt hit 4 million in japan?????????

i think it is very do-able esp with the current state of 3ds.......

it could over take animal crossing's number one spot in japan sales for the 3ds.......

It's no competition for MH, I think that much is obvious. Though it'll probably be the best selling Vita title in Japan by some margin and sell quite a few HW units.

Well, Capcom's numbers definitely are not out of date as they listed as of March 31, 2013.  Says so at the top of the page.  And I'm pretty certain it's not suddenly sold a million units since the start of April.

But more so than just that is the fact that VGC still has it listed as 5.37 million.  WE've had some numbers that are off but damn...that is way off.

To be Fair, MH3G is a port and 3DS install base was very low compare to psp install base for the freedom 3 and unite. MH4 will easily outsell a port (of which is almost 2mil the third highest in the franchise in japan) and do an absolute minumum of 3.5mil imo. I mean its like comparing pokemon black/white to pokemon black2/white2, MH4 is a new mainstream game, i think your underestimating it, but hey everybody has their opinion! We'll see soon results........... so prepare yourself

If GH2 sales will be as good as preorders, Capcom will become greedy for PSV users' wallets.

Then the most simple strategy for Capcom will be to:

1) keep on selling MH main series exclusive to Ninty
2a) waiting for PSV user base to be a little bit larger (7-10M)
2b) start selling again MH Freedom exclusive to Sony

Why selling just ONE exclusive when you can sell TWO?

Surely, though, it won't be for this Xmas.

With that line of thinking, why not just put the GE series on 3DS?  Why sell just ONE exclusive when you can sell TWO?

Yes they definitely could do it, but to make the trick work and get moneyhatted twice, you need to make two different series from the same main series of the franchise and make each one exclusive: MH-(nothing-else)-VersionNumber stopped being on PlayStation since PS2, after that, Ninty received it as exclusive, while PS3 and PSP received MH Freedom and MH Portable.

So Bandai must be as cunning as Capcom, and keep on making GE-(nothing else)-VersionNumber Sony exclusive and make also a spin-off as big as a main series, called GE-Something-VersionNumber and sell its exclusive to Ninty.

I guess this can be considered quite fishy, but Capcom does it regularly, so if Bandai has comparable size and power as Capcom, they can do it. Obviously it depends also on the relationship between these 3rd parties and console makers, but, again, if Capcom is able to make it work, so should Bandai if it's powerful enough.
