World of Warcraft requires you to be online and no one complained about that. It doesn't really matter if online centric games require a connection.

First of, they are not ''pretty much mmo's'', It's explicitly stated in some interviews that they ARE mmo's - i'm excited for the crew but as when you're excited for an athlete from your country ,who you didn't even know, wins a medal at the olympics, it is very unlikely that i'll touch that game ^^ - now if people are aware of this i don't know, it doesn't seem so --- I just hope not every single next gen game is an mmo.
well The Division was clearly a TPSMMO. didnt realise The Crew would be too, not that it bothers me as ive still got my NFS and GT for a racing fix

I can see how people would get confused by just watching the gameplay vids. They look nothing like your standard MMO.
Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

The Crew too
A open world MMO... that's the reasion it looked impressive at E3.

I garuntee this will cut the sales of The Crew and The Division. Especially considering how much these games cost to make now Ubisoft is taking a big gamble and I hope it doesn't pay off or other third party studios will start to follow suit, thinking that's where the money is. |
Well, I think most of the hype and yelling, was just that, hype and people yelling. Then they realized things like, World of Warcraft (PC), Halo Mulitplayer (X360) and Massive Action Game (MAG) (PS4) are already always online and it's not a huge deal. The disasters of Sim City and Diablo being the exceptions.
I think it is also a way to combat piracy. I know of people as kid who copied and sold PS1 or PS2 games at school. You could get an Xbox with a chirped Hard Drive with all the games on it. Even know, a great game like Alan Wake, is pirated more than it is purchased. They have noticed it so they have an eyepatch on Alan in the game. I have met to many PC Gamers who tell me how many thousands they spent on their fancy rig, then tell me how they pirate all the games for free.
While, yes, it is probably needed in some games, I think more are adding it as another way to stealthily combat piracy. Sure it might hurt some sales, but with a drastic reduction in piracy might make the game more profitable.
Ranting, that MMO games are required to be online? Lol.
Just look at Titanfall. Always online, using the cloud, brrrr...so Microsoft lied about the 180' after all :D
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!
most games will be like that next gen. sure, you could play the crew offline but with this little measurement they can work against piracy and "have a reason" why it is online only.
one more great thing for ubisoft is that the crew is probably much more fun with friends and if they release it as online only game to be played with friends, magazines won't review it as singleplayer game with online component.

You can't play The Crew offline... forget that.
In few words it is a Burnout MMO... MMO means always online... no offline confirmed by Ubisoft already.
Edit - lol I get what you said... forget what I said lol.
