endimion said: wait why is everybody going Awall ???? it's not like the entire new portfolio of IP for MS was relying on BT anyway ???? and beside we have absolutely no clue of the size of BT and the room for expansion MS has plan for that studio.... for all we know they have been working on several concepts, one of which had been green lite by MS for a release sometime in 2015, now they have GOW and are focusing on that to bring it up to speed (pre dev work and initial assets development) and once they'll have the man power they'll work on both with a launch of one IP in 2015 and the other 2016.... we don't know where the first project was (and there must have one, it's not like they are just paid to brainstorm on new ideas 24/7 for more than a year) and depending on that it could very well be that the game is postponed to 4Q 2015 with GOW in the pipeline for Q4 2016 instead of it being Q1 2015 initially... who knows.... but I have no doubt we'll see at least 6 new IPs before the end of 2014 or at least 3 with a bunch of reboot such as BK, PD, or PGR.... Phil and MSFT seems well aware that they need to expand their portfolio, I don't think that has changed.... it's a reality and they know it |
Well, for one they made it pretty clear today that the Stealth shooter teased at E3 last year was nothing more than a tech demo, that was pretty dissapointing for those who were looking forward to the game, like myself. Second, Phil's tweets suggest that Black Tusk's huge new IP is getting delayed while Black Tusk works on the next Gears. So we've got one new IP that never existed in the first place and another that's likely now getting delayed. So, yes, this announcement was pretty dissapointing for me since I have zero interest in Gears.
Microsoft likely will anounce other new IP's this year, but Microsoft's only remaining unaccounted for 1st party studios are not AAA, most of them have made Kinect games in the past. Lionhead's working on a new AAA IP, but it won't be coming in 2014, they're already releasing Fable Legends in 2014. Rare's working on a 3rd game but they've hinted that it's a classic IP, not a new IP. Playground is likely working on Forza Horizon 2, which while good, is not a new IP. That only leaves Microsoft's smaller, non-AAA studios, Lift London, Good Science Studio, Twisted Pixel, Soho Productions, Press Play, and BigPark. While it's possible that Microsoft could staff one of them up considerably and turn them into a AAA developer, we haven't heard any rumors indicating that that's going on. So, that means that we'll likely only get new AAA IP's this year if they're 2nd/3rd party. And as we all know, 3rd party new IP exclusives are not guaranteed to stay exclusive like 1st party games are, we've seen this before with Mass Effect. I was really hoping to see Microsoft find a new staple IP this year, but that seems unlikely now.
Edit: Don't worry, I'm not going AWOL, I'm just dissapointed is all. Still an Xbox fan, as always, sust a somewhat dissapointed Xbox fan on this particular day.
