Watched the first few episodes of the show... Very disappointing. It was combination of pretentious and boring. The characters were way too dumbed down for a true sci-fi.

A movie I would prefer. Why would anyone want Fox to go near Firefly again?

Whedon said he never would...but he did do "Dollhouse" for FOX.  He has said he wont do anything else with the show, but fuck if we dont want it.

It's one of my favourite shows ever, and I would love for it to be extended.

But it's been 11 years. Arrested Development barely survived after six, and they can't do the whole "split the cast up and film separately" thing now. If they do it, I hope they retcon some of the events of Serenity

I call it "Live Action" Cowboy Bebop.
It also has no Aliens or "Robots" and one of the more humorous Science Fictions out there.


Personally, I think it is more relatable to humanities future than many other shows.  And Im a huge Sci-Fi fan as well.

So not true. i like to watch science fiction of just about any kind, i never got into the show at all.
If i had to decide to between watching all of firefly once or Battlefield Earth on replay for the same amount of time as all of firely would be..... Battlefield Earyh here i come.

I cant tell if they watched it at all based on that post.  But to compare anything (but maybe "The Room") to Battlefield Earth just baffles me?

I think 5-10 years ago the TV show could have continued and still been just as awesome (the Verse had such potential I think another 2 or 3 half-seasons [13 eps] before it might begin to feel 'samey')

Now however is just too late, I don't think there is any way for the story to continue with live action satisfactorily. The cast is too much older even if they could get them all back together, and it wouldn't be the same if it was a whole new crew/spin-off type thing.

What would have been awesome (apart from the show not being cancelled in the first place) is if they picked it back up straight after the Serenity film.... essentially continuing on the plot from the end of the series up to the beginning of the film (which as nothing is specified could have been years)

As it is, I think Serenity is a good film, but I think Whedon was trying to tie up too many loose ends from the series in too short a screen time, with another couple of series all the stuff about River being a weapon and secrets behind the reavers etc could have been revealed more naturally. There was also the usual stuff with films in that it had to be able to stand on its own (so some background stuff had to be repeated even if you had seen the series) as well as being too focussed on action scenes. Plus the fact that in the series Simon payed men to extract River, whereas in the film he was suddently all superhero.

Having said all that though it was a good way to end the story when there was such a slim likelyhood of revisiting the series.

So IMO, it's too late for any kind of live action revisitation to the Serenity crew... and a spin-off with a new crew would have to be outstanding to avoid fan backlash. I don't have much interest in MMOs (especially not on the iPhone) so my vote would have to go with a single player game, linearish and story driven could work well and would probably be easiest to pull off, but a mass effect-like RPG would be awesome.

I watched the movie then tried to watch a couple episodes. Never saw the appeal.

Where did I compare the two? I said I would take one over the other but made no comparison because they are in no way similar, other than being science fiction.

Fantastic TV series, movie was great too.

I think it's unrealistic to ask for a new TV series, but a sequel to Serenity is a chance I think.

EDIT: It horrifies me to think people on this thread didn't like the show...
