Forums - Nintendo - Are Pikmin 3 FW sales proof enough for you that the Wii U is not doomed?

100k sw and 20k hw?
Doesn't sound that good tbh, or am I wrong? If this is good for Japan, then man.. that market is really dying.

Uhh yeah people spend more money for bigger numbers all the time!  Are you kidding lol?  (Not saying they are always smart to, but come on they do)

More must have titles in 2014?  The PS4 has: The Division, MGSV, The Elder Scrolls Online, Dragon Age 3, FFXV, The Witcher: The Hunt, Diablo III, InFamous, and whatever other first party titles they haven't announced yet (I would guess at least 2).  There is no way Nintendo will match this list of games.  Fact.

I am not dissing the Wii U, but some people really need a reality check; No offense (And I mean it).

No offense taken and i kid you not. But what you consider the smart thing might not be the smart thing for other people in different circunstances.

Those PS4 titles, a good part are on PS3 aswell or the PC and some are not a given release for 2014, in particular the division and FFXV.

Think of it like this: the smart thing is to play good games and pay the least money. Both the Wii U and the PS4 have potencial for great games and the Wii U simply has more high profile titles announced for next year and a cheaper price. X in particular looks to be the most impressive. The smart thing is to buy a cheaper Wii U next year for the great titles coming out for it and a PS4 at christmas or 2015 after a price cut. It cant get smarter than that if you're a gamer.

I dont know where the need to buy an HDD comes from to be honest. Its the first i heard about it here in this thread. I am pretty sure most Wii U customers dont bother with that and make do with the 32G.

WiiU will always be doomed its not up to smart people or Nintendo to decide wheter its called doomed or not (which is sad)

How many more games are going to be claimed 'the one that will save the wiiu' only to not meet expectations then be excused as 'well you cant expect a single game to fix things' thats nintendos entire problem, withoit third part titles to prop up the quiet periods, even if nintendo fans dont want to admit it, nintendo doesnt have the time or the franchise base to pull off single handedly satiating an entire hd platform.

until theres a aaa game per month youll simply see a small spike in unit sales with each release and back to little after that, when the xbox one and ps4 launch that spike is going to get smaller and smaller too

i have pikmin 3, i was one of those 100k ish that bougt it, and its about the first time my wiiu got switched on in months.

only to be switched off again an hour later

I read that same crap you're saying two years ago, except it was about 3ds.

Yes because the 3DS is a HD console, and had a serious game drought for a year then just as games were starting to show for it, two other handhelds of better visual quality and tremendous hype released, didnt they

<_<

Strong sales and healthy future: Yes, I can see it, a nice profit for Nintendo, a good collection of games and maybe 40-50 million lifetime sales.

Domination?
No, I don´t think it will happen, when the current gen starts to lose support, the WiiU will fell the pressure of more and more amazing titles that everyone wants but the system cannot have.

So, I still think the WiiU will have a respectable and solid third place, but with profit and corporate health for Nintendo, and, the best of all: good games for the fans.

Also, the WiiU is competing, again, with nothing on Japan right now, it is the only next gen console on the market, so, it better sell more than the PS3.

My reasons to doubt the Nintendo Domination are: GTA 5, huge game, I will buy, and other 15 million people will buy it, not on WiiU, this alone is a bad sign. Remember this: the PS3 WAS NOT in such a good shape when GTA 4 came out, and still it got a very nice port of the game.

GTA is the gamers game, the real deal juggernaut of the industry, Call of Duty is for the casual, for angry kids with ADD and adults with not much time to play. It is cool and it sells, but the real deal is GTA. Even the DS had one.

I really think Nintendo should be agressive about getting games like this, offer 5 or 6 million to the developer, help in the port, do something, but do not lose these really important titles.

I'm an adult and play COD at least 20-30 hours a week. So do all of my friends and at least 50% of the people in game lobbies late at night. COD is casual for some but I'd argue most players take it very seriously. Clocking up hundreds of hours on multiplayer. Working on challenges, ranks, stats, unlockables. Working up the ladders of league play or just domintating specific leaderboards. This is a stupid generalisation and shows you are a little out of touch with what a gamer's game is these days. 5 years ago I'd agree that GTA was easily number 1 but not anymore.

I don't see the Wii U dominating anything, anytime soon.

But it already is! Wii U = 3 million, PS4/XO = 0 million. :L

Dominate is a stretch but I think it will do very well for the next 2-3 years
