Forums - Gaming Discussion - My one issue with the "exclusives" argument

^^^

Thank you. That's why lists must be impartial and unbiased, because everyone's gaming preferences are different and there is no way we can make a list that accommodates everybody WHILE showcasing each consoles strength.

It makes no sense to filter based on personal, non-universal tastes. It makes sense to make a non-filtered, unbiased list. What you make of it depends on your platforms of choice outside the 1 vs 1.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Way off topic here, but I'd take a car that gets 90 miles to the gallon but doesn't have AC in a heartbeat. Air conditioning has never been an exclusive; I can roll down the window!

¬_¬ or, you know, people could actually look at their own situation and decides what's best _for them_

Because people have to like one system, then make everyone else see that the other system sucks. I thought everyone knew that.

But to actually stay on topic with what people are talking about (or were, I honestly couldn't bear reading past page 2.)  If someone plays games on PC often they might not consider The Witcher 2 or LFD 1/2 or Alan Wake etc being on Xbox important to them. But if they don't have a PC capable of playing them or don't enjoy playing on PC as much, then if they want those games then they'd have to have an Xbox.

Oh dang, that's 2 different situations with 2 different results, both being very reasonable. I guess you might've known what you were talking about after all ;)

That was my point. A "console X is better than Y" debate is totally pointless, because there actually is no winner there. For some X is the best choice, for some it's Y and for some it's Z, simply because of their preferences and their personal situation and all of these are equally reasonable.

I know :P I thought the 1st sentence made it pretty obvious and then the wink at the end as well. I was just trying to give more detail on it.

Here's a rather simple scenario, using my own experience:

I own this laptop: http://www.frys.com/product/7167982?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Pretty run of the mill, in terms of how much an average laptops cost. And considering it is average, we can extrapolate that many people's laptops are comparable, so there's a large base of people to base this analysis on. Yet, I can play Skyrim on this laptop, without overclocking, just to give you guys an idea of the benchmark.

Now, with such a computer, I can play Alan Wake, Minecraft, Witcher 2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Skyrim with Dawnguard (since the PS3 didn't get it for several months after its initial release), etc et al.

Now, I, the average consumer, have an average laptop, and can play all these games, and more. Now, I walk into the store and consider getting a console. Xbox 360 or PS3. What would I be telling myself? Which platform would give me the largest amount of total gaming experience? If I get a 360.....well, I already have Alan Wake, Witcher 2, etc. That doesn't expand on anything. If I get a PS3, I get to experience Alan Wake, Witcher 2, etc. AND ALSO get Last of Us, Gran Turismo, etc.

Anyone talking about "experiences you can get on one but not the other" is disregarding the mind of the consumer. You are only talking about "strict one on one comparisons" to see "who can hold their own". But that doesn't matter, to the consumer. One system can have a plethora of games, yet if the consumers decide to get the other system and buy one or two games en masse, it doesn't matter how much system 1 can "hold its own in a strict 1v1 comparison", because, I, the consumer, am not thinking in a strict 1v1 comparison. I may not have system A, but I can still get the experience of system A without owning system A, because I am an average US citizen, with an average computer, and this average computer can run those games

If I (and by default, many millions of people, since it's a cheaper laptop) have this average PC, yet I can run all those "consoles exclusives" as well as many multiplats (that computer can run Sleeping Dogs, Assassin's Creed 3, Portal 2, SFxTekken, and more), why would I choose a 360, as a gamer and a consumer, over a PS3? I can play God of War, Last of Us, Uncharted series, R&C, etc. AND play Minecraft, Witcher, L4D, Alan Wake etc. With your 360, you only get to play Minecraft, L4D, Witcher, Alan Wake, etc.

If you're a gamer, which scenario, from the above, is the most logical?

THANK YOU!!!!

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

Who says gamers are logical?Every faction behaves illogically.Doesn't explain the sales of Minecraft for 360 or Left4 Dead 1/2. Millions just consciously make the choice to not game on their PCs.....crazy I know. No preference is universal and lists should be unbiased and impartial. Putting PC into it is biased....and not impartial at all.

Is it fear that we filter these lists? So what if X1 may or may not have more offerings not on PS4 for 2013.....you will just claim that you can play some of the X1 games on PC right? So what do you care if someone chooses to make a strict 1 vs 1 comparison and limit the criteria to just their games?

And cmon.....weve been living in a XBox vs PS rivalry for over a decade. Can we not act like it ISN'T 1 vs 1? Because it has been then and it is exactly that now. So really, it comes to a earlier theory I have.......Xbox offers a better library then PS 1 vs 1. A PS3 gamer NEEDS a PC to be competitive with lonely old Xbox.....

By the way the above sentence is technically true...360 has more 70-90+ metacritic games.

LOL you just keep on going with this BS.  Here is a breakdown of the order of current gen consoles my friends and I have bought in the order they bought them:

A: PS3

B: PS3

C: PS3

D: 360,PS3

E: Wii,360,PS3

F: 360,PS3

G: 360

H:360

I: 360,PS3

J: 360

So then think about it.  Nobody who started with a PS3 got anything else,  everyone (Only one in this example but you get the idea) who go a Wii got a 360 or PS3, and 4/7 people who got a 360 got a PS3 later.  It seems to me one console makes more people satisfied long term.  This is also backed up by the fact that the PS3 passed 360 in sales and continues to dominate them week by week.  A lot of people ran out of games to play on 360 and wanted something they couldn't get elseware...

tsk tsk. Gamers with a gaming PC, much less are willing to game on their PC, is far from universal.

Essentially, from what I am hearing, there is no PS3 fans, at least ones that can stand on their own terms. You need a MS PC to compete if you can't stand behind a true 1 vs 1 comparison.

So this is what it's come to?  Your friends?!?

Based on your scientific study of friends that represent the real world, I would assume taht the PS3 and 360 have tied for the lead (7 to 7) and the Wii was the worst selling console on the market.

Or maybe the 360 guys that bought PS3's later are "true gamers" that didn't care which console they gamed on because they just want to play everything.

Or maybe the friends that only owned PS3's are loyal to Sony and your 360 friends were PS2 owners that switched.

Or maybe they're just random people that don't represent anything other than the people you associate yourself with and don't represent any type of majority at all.  I mean their buying habits could be twisted any number of ways, right?

You could probably ask any number of people on this site to find out which consoles their friends own and we would get any number of responses because the truth is that, to many gamers, neither console's library is that big of a deal as long as they get their Call of Duty/Madden/Grand Theft Auto fix.

I disagree with this thread entirely.

No lol you just need a PC in general.  In otherwords all of us already have a gaming PC, so none of us need a 360.  However a PS4 would allow me to play LBP3 and InFamous.
