Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why didn't Nintendo never release a Mario Golf/Mario Tennis on the Wii?

They were not saw as needed...

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

With how successful Wii Sports was, why didn't Nintendo further develop the existing Golf/Tennis games on Wii sport into more in depth Mario based version. It just seem such an obvious games to make for the time and both games could have been potentially been 10+ million seller each?

like serious?!? such a good question and i really really wish i knew what went through nintendo's collective brain.

...the day mario tennis was announced for 3DS i just about cried.  it makes no sense at all.

Nintendo probably figured most people wouldn't have felt very inclined to buy them since they already had a Tennis and Golf game in the form of Wii Sports. How well did other tennis n golf games do on the Wii?

how did other tennis and golf games do on Gamecube? not sure i see your point. Soccer games dont fly off the shelves for the Wii but they made a soccer game didnt they?

The Gamecube wasn't bundled with Wii Sports, so I don't see your point.

They made Mario Strikers Charged, though I don't know how much it or other soccer games sold on the Wii. Also, MSC was in development before the Wii came out, and considering Wii Sports, they probably figured if they were gonna make a sports game they should make it one not in Wii Sports.

So we are comparing one segment of a sports minigame compilation that was really just a glorified demo disc to a full blown game modes and campaigns? Yeah that makes sense.

Guess people are easily satisfied, far enough. Point taken on Mario Strikers, still doesnt make sense why the other sports games didnt get the same treatment, considering they all sold about the same on GC. ANd no it being in some WiiSports nonsense is not a substitue, especially when those portions arent that great to begin with.

Are you Nintendo? No? Then like everyone else you have no idea why Nintendo didn't make those games. My theory may not make sense to you, but it possibly made sense to Nintendo.

There was so many other games like that. Plus the sales of the Mario sports titles were not stellar on the Wii. Not bad, but nothing to write home to Miyamoto about either.

Doesn't Mario Kart count as sport title then, as it's essential of the motor sports genre?

It just seem weird Nintendo decide to make other sports games which were clearly weren't as well suited to the Wii like Sport Mix, Mario Strikers Charged & Mario Super Sluggers instead on improving on their existing Wii Sport Tennis/Golf, which worked remarkable well on the Wii instead.

Speaking for Mario Strikers Charged specifically, I know that my friends and I had a blast playing that game trying to get through each cup as 4 players co-op on a team.  The celebration we had after winning the Crystal Cup (which is only the second level), you would have thought we just watched our favorite team win the Super Bowl.  Anyway, from a sales standpoint, Charged improved on the Gamecube Striker's sales by a million.  And it sold 2.5 x better than any Fifa or Pro Evolution Soccer on Wii.  While 2.5 million might not seem like an eye catching amount, it make Top 50 on Wii, would crack Top 50 compared to PS3 software sales as well, and inside Top 70 if compared to XBox 360 games.  I for one am glad they did release it.  I still play it with my nephew when I visit my brother and his kids every summer.

Those 2 yearly outings of Tiger woods sold most copies on the wii, doubling most other systems and the 09 version on the wii seems to be miles ahead also but it had a slight different name than on the 360/ps3 but yeah those games had little real competition on wii so they did sell incredibly well, especially when you consider the obvious less amount of effort needing to go into porting it to a non hd system.

so thats 2 years out of six? im sorry but that still tells me that the hd versions sold more in general.

09 was also far more on the wii like I said but the wii version is called tiger woods 09 all stars and the hd versions aren't called that so a link is harder.

2011 sold more on the ps3 but the wii beat out the Xbox360 version.

2007 all consoles were within 10k of each other.

You might think that these games sold very little on the Wii, but just type "tiger woods" into the search bar at the top and you can see EA cleaned up with the Wii versions of the game.

When you really look at it, what's even more impressive is the fact that Wii is the ONLY console last generation to have a million selling Tiger Woods Golf game.  And not just one, but 3 different million sellers (08, 09, and 10).

was thinking btw in an argument against my own point that there could be digital versions from the xbla sold, but after looking around on the EU store only '13/'14 are up on Games on Demand. Not sure about psn tho.

But yeah considering those games especially are just ps2 looking ports with wiimote controls then they definately printed money for EA on the wii.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I think a large part of it, deals with Nintendo not wanting to take away from Wii Sports... and them being too cheap to commission new versions from the developer Camelot who has worked on both Mario Golf and Tennis for Nintendo in the past.

Camelot actually did release a arcade golf game "We Love Golf!" on the Wii and would also later create "Mario Tennis Open" for the 3DS and are working on a "Mario Golf" game for it as well. So yeah, they probably could have done it, Nintendo just didn't want to pay them to make a Wii version.

Because the Wii is a box of broken dreams and squandered potential. (I love my Wii, but I'll still admit that.)

OT this is one of the things that pissed me off about WIi those games should have been a forgone conclusion. Hell the first thing i thought about when i saw Wii was "wow Mario Tennis is gonna be the shit" and dont tell me no crap about the new play mechanic garbage. That was a lazy effort at best and was even worst than the original version. Golf and Tennis would have been perfect for a WIimote and we got a soccer game! And Sports mix? What the hell was that?

Sorry to come across as crazy but i was really looking forward to those. But at least EA(of all companies) put out Grand Slam Tennis and it was actually good, crap graphics and all. That eased the pain... a bit.

Oh and if they put either of those series on Wii U, im buying the system used out of spite

The EA Tiger woods games are also pretty damn good on the Wii, perhaps there was a deal cut with Nintendo not to release their branded sports games in exchange for extra EA support. Doubtful but you never know.

Ive heard, but i dont think for second that EA had anything to do with Ninty, well screwing up, thats what it comes down too, not putting games on the system is screwing up IMHO. THere is nothing that would benefit EA or Ninty in that deal. EA games generally did better on the othere systems especially sports games. ninty could make more by actually making their own games. hell the Grand Slam sequel wastn even released on Wii...or WIi U

i never said it sold very little, that was the only EA sports series that seemed to do ok, im just saying it was still outsold by HDs, but thats still no substitue for Mario Golf as those two series play very differently. Thats like saying hey we're not giving you SF4 but take Tvs.C
