That I not what sport is about at all... That's actually a sad way to view it.

It is, but that's how a lot of people feel. No one likes to back a loser. Especially if you're spending hard earned money to go see games live.

And I didn't mean it as in that's how I personally feel. That was just an example of how I think many people do feel =)

You are actually probably correct.  It is a very well thought out post and probably holds a lot of truth to it.

A lot of things that are true are sad ways to view things. When people are honest about things others sometimes look down on them but in reality, those being looked down upon are just the ones telling it like it is.

And about the OP, along with most every answer here, having something you like/follow win feels like a win to you is because it's a justification for how you view things. It shows you that you had a good idea and were correct in your decision (in your eyes at least). While some people like to be the only ones who like something, most people enjoy company. And when what you follow gets a victory others might come to see it your way as well and you can enjoy it together. It also helps to prevent people from bashing your idea as well, which I'm sure if they're being honest, nobody enjoys.

Haha well thanks!

Self-investment.

But the real question here is; why do we have threads (that talk about this subject) about once every month?

idk, i didnt know that it was talked about so much?  im interested in how the mind works so i like talking about these things.  That is as much as i can say.  If you can find another thread that is asking this question though just link it to me and ill ask for this thread to be locked, np.

It's sad, but I won't be able to find another one of these threads. The Forum Searching function just doesn't work that well.

But yes, it's talked about quite a lot. Maybe not once a month (because that was sarcasm) but definitely quite a bit.

It's all about choices.
If we choose things correctly, that means we are moving in the right direction, and socially, it can help others. Humans by nature are social, and our usefulness to the group is a main tenet of happiness. If we tend to choose things correctly because we understand things better, we are more useful to the group. This is why people tend to argue with each other about these things, because they want to convince others to do as they're doing.

"I did well as a doctor, my son should do the same because I want him to do well."
"You should buy a ps4 because the xb1 is restrictive"
"They're trying to take our guns"

Just look, it's all about cautioning people, or promoting better directions. It's a mutual mentorship proposal. The group is valued at the sum of its members.

Really enjoying well thought out posts such as these.  Keep them coming guys :)

because humans are a social species. We like when "our" group succeeds at something.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Tribalism extended to cast a wide net. Basically anything that you consciously or subconsciously connect to your own sense of self becomes a matter of pride/celebration at the success of that thing.

Bringing it back to the subject of this site. At least with game consoles we have a direct vested interest in the success of our preferred platform: more and better games. Not that it makes the extent of fanaticism with gaming consoles any less ridiculous, but at least there's a direct personal benefit to rooting for "victory".
