It's all about choices.
If we choose things correctly, that means we are moving in the right direction, and socially, it can help others. Humans by nature are social, and our usefulness to the group is a main tenet of happiness. If we tend to choose things correctly because we understand things better, we are more useful to the group. This is why people tend to argue with each other about these things, because they want to convince others to do as they're doing.
"I did well as a doctor, my son should do the same because I want him to do well."
"You should buy a ps4 because the xb1 is restrictive"
"They're trying to take our guns"
Just look, it's all about cautioning people, or promoting better directions. It's a mutual mentorship proposal. The group is valued at the sum of its members.
