Wierd, back in the NES days the sidnt release the true version of Super Mario Bros 2 because it was too difficult for Americans.

At first I laughed but then I remembered how competitive we are at EVERYTHING. I mean, look at Billy Mitchell. Dude's beard could dominate entire nations.

My thoughts as well.
Also can't remember the last difficult Western action game I've played... |
+1..
"the challenge found throughout western action based titles"
What challenge?
This article has to be a joke.
So that's why Mario games are so easy now! O_o
Well just make different difficulty settings for your games Miyamoto: Japanese and American. Done.
I like challenging games because when I finish them I feel like I accomplished something great. I hate it when the game wins for me and all I do is nothing. I don't like getting 1ups in 3D Land every 5 seconds... how will I be punish-ed!? I miss the SNES and NES days when graphical and power limitations provided a challenge. Yes, I'm speaking to you Kid Icarus!

yeah, for sure. there is certainly truth in the statement that not everyone wants a game with insane difficulty. some people want a relaxing game where the joy is in the interaction not in the outcome. ...it's just not a japan vs. the west thing. you'll find both type of gamers in both regions. hell, i love me some challenge (dark/demon souls) but still love me some easy games too (re-playing the R&C franchise atm).
hell, zelda OoT was nerfed for the us launch and re-released as "master quest"...
I think it´s exactely the opposite.
This doesn´t explain why japanese audiences loves so much Rpgs, while in the West they´re not as widely appreciated. Wouldn´t it because western audiences doesn´t appreciate difficult strategic games ?
For me rpgs/strategy/tatics games will always be harder than action games.
Now.. I really want to know what is the source of those japanese consumers lines.... some of them are just strange, or just seem like fanboy talk

What?
Isn't it the other way around?
Or maybe Japanese gamers are tired of the super hard modes their games get. I mean ot FFII was released as FFIV - easy mode, in Japan, and often times action games, like Devil May Cry 3, have the English Hard Mode as their normal mode.
Maybe it's time to have the difficulty in Japanese games match those in English games.

I wonder if this is a misquote. Because it seems like an extremely un-Miyamoto-esque thing to say.
