Then I guess this thread is pointless and can be closed since nobody has the correct answer here. If you only want the answer and nothing else posted then you are out of luck.

This.

Yes, it is a problem. It doesn't add much value for its high price.

If the cost to add Kinect to every console was $10 it would be pretty obviously worth it. But now that analysts estimate that Kinect 2.0 costs as much as half the cost of the Xbone console, you have to ask if the value and functions added compensate the radically higher cost.

Personally I think it's a huge mistake to invest so much in Kenict, an enormous mistake by Microsoft's part that shows how the Xbox division is completely out of touch with the market trends, and that the Xbone spells the beginning of the end for Microsoft in the gaming business.

This exactly!  The Xbox One should cost $300-$350, but they just had to bundle Kinect with it.  And if Kinect is so needed then why have I seen no AAA games built around it?

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

Yes, it's a problem. It has effectively thwarted Microsoft's ability to price Xbox One competitively. Xbox One will always carry a higher price tag than PS4 for the rest of its life (unless it gets dominated in sales and MS has no other choice but to bleed profusely to keep the pace). Another thing, the audience who would potentially look at Kinect won't consider it until Xbox One is at least $299.

Again this exactly!  I really think there should have been a Hardcore $350 SKU with a 500GB HDD and no kinect, and a $250 SKU with 250GB, Kinect 2.0, and a mandatory $15 a month for two years of LIVE contract.

It is absolutely not a problem for me. I would actually welcome it if Microsoft decided to pack some more mandatory peripherals into the box to raise it's value.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I don't find it surprising that 99% of the people complaining about having to keep the Kinect plugged in are Sony fans. If it was such a big issue it would be all over media sites and not just certain gamer forums.

making up #'s ftw. Got proof of 99%? Also it is a big issue, it has been covered by media sites. Maybe not Xbox.com or ilovexbox.com or some shit like that lol

Don't understand how you folks can defend the required kinect. If Microsoft said you must play Xbox One upside down, would you defend that as well?

then again the core of the market is not buying the console before year 2 or 3 of the console....

and yeah beside specialized gaming website and a few tech website mostly US based nobody cares about what's going on in the console world right now.... i'd be surprise if there is anything over 1 million people that are remotely interested in next gen yet and have followed closely what's going on....

it's like the boooooing at EVO of KI and XB1 and the journalist trying to make us believe it is a big deal... the pro fighting community is so tinny they could all stop buying XB1 completely it wouldn't impact the console sales by more than 0.1%

it's pretty much the same so far with every pseudo deal breaker the community has been trying to point out....

yeah sure a fraction, hell even a majority of hardcore gamers enthusiast might pass on the Xbox, but once again those are still not the core of the market buying the console, they are not the 70 millions that bought the XB360 they a fraction of that....

but hey who am I kidding everybody in the community is convinced they are the relevant majority, they think without them nothing can happen, and my favorite is they think because they have been the more vocal one it means they are right and nobody wants the XB1 and even less the Kinect...

well a lot of people are actually excited about XB1 and the Kinect... they just don't need to post it to feel better about it, and with the climate you have on gaming forums lately I don't even know why they would even come to post... it's getting so bad IGN had to step up on their moderation cause they are losing control and of course audience over that....
now people should get over it, the XB1 and Kinect will sell just fine comes November and will have legs deep enough to be in the competition until the end of next gen... you don't like what you get, get over it or express it by not buying it.... MS has a vision that doesn't suit yours but it suits and will appeal to millions of people that are not just looking for a closed non evolving gaming rig...

some of us want a cross between an XB360 with kinect, a steam box, a cable box and a PC with out most of the impracticality of each of them as stand alones... and are willing to pay the price for that, and some will wait but it will sell, no doubt about that.... it might not track on Sony's sales but anybody saying it will die is just trolling big time.... if it was true Sony PS3 would have had way more issues to sell....

Why is it a big deal?

Because people dont want a camera and microphone device sitting in the living room, or even bedroom, connected at all times. It doesnt matter how many "off" functions it has, its still connected at all times. Now answer my question or I will report you for being off topic and derailing.

Why does it have to be plugged in at all times?

Do you leave your cellphone outside when you are at home? Or do you just not use one?

There is another therad with a dev ama on reddit where he says kinect is basically integrated into everything (as it should be, voice controls for the win). Given that its integrated with everything, and the ONE is designed to be used with it they decided to make it a requirement. Chances are that those that wont use kinect wouldn't want a ONE anyways. Why pay 100 more for something you wont use? jut get a ps4.

Edit: I will also add I think the one of the main reasons it needs to be plugged in is because it is part of the start up process. They wanted you to ba able to turn kinect on with your voice when the system was in a low power mode. to do that they probably have kinect connected to the main power source in some way. I could be wrong. But from what ms has said, kinect is very much integrated intop the system as a whole. The ONE was built with kinect in mind from the getgo. It is what they are pushing as the next interface for computing, and they will push it hard.

No, its in my pocket and/or usually in a protective case.

I wont use Kinect, I will still eventually pick up a One.

Why not use kinect at all? It really works great for media watching. I will probably be getting an xbox ONE just becasue of kinect. Its the only device that will let me control my media with my voice, and that makes my life easy. I will probably game on my pc for the most part. Hvae you used kinect on the 360? it works good already, its only problem is its not fully integrated into the ystem so some things dont have voice controls.  I dont use the camera much at all, it usually blocked by stuff anyways as my room gets cluttered.
