Forums - Microsoft - Kinect being bundled with Xbox One isnt a problem

This thread is pointless. The OP is just completely ignoring all the replies until we actually approve what he is saying without thinking or debating. (actually asking almost everybody to do not reply/post...)

Talking about other devices with a camera plugged in and only turned off instead of having to disconnect them every time you are not using is "not at all related to the thread" even if it is exactly what seem to be "the" big issue here... oh well...

Im not ignoring sensible replies, like what tres said. He actually had reasons, not deflection.

Okay. My phone has a camera.

Now tell me why that matters in a discussion regarding why Kinect has to be plugged in for the One to work.

why the kinect have to be plugged in for Xbone to work?
it doesn't have a seperate plug. its one machine now. like cameras and phones are one machine now.
and someone already mentioned the quote from the dev. XBone uses too many kinect features

@Carl2291

Your answer to my question of "Why does it matter?" -
"Because people dont want a camera and microphone device sitting in the living room, or even bedroom, connected at all times. It doesnt matter how many "off" functions it has, its still connected at all times. Now answer my question or I will report you for being off topic and derailing."

So you are asking this question because you don't want a camera on at all times or a microphone and you want to unplug it. We then proceed to provide examples of other electronic devices that have cameras and microphones on at all times for comparison purposes and how it isn't a big deal. You then proceed to say we are ignoring your question.

You are ignoring the question. Youre not giving me any reason why I have to have this extra device plugged in.

With my phone, I need to have my camera there because it is built in. With my phone, I need to have the microphone there because it is built in. I cannot unplug the camera from my phone and I cannot unplug the microphone. With a webcam, I would be able to unplug it and use my PC as normal. With a laptop webcam, I have it there because it is built in. With the Xbox 360, I can plug in Kinect and unplug Kinect as I please.

With Xbox One, Kinect isnt built in. I can remove it from the system. What I want to know is, why do I have to have this peripheral plugged in for the device to work?

Phones and computers have nothing to do with this. If Kinect was literally built into the One, then I would have no problem and I would understand why it would be always on. This isnt the case, though.

Lol Yes you are... Can you explain WHY IS IT A BIG DEAL to have Kinect connected all the while being able to turn it off anyway?

Why does the camera have to be plugged in? Probably because it is the main controller for the system. You can't use the other consoles without a controller either.

And then we come full circle to the fact that nobody here has an answer for you. I'm sure it is something built into the software that can be changed if it turns out to be a dealbreaker. I'm guessing the reason they want the Kinect plugged in is because it is an integral part of the full Xbox One experience using the interface, etc.

Where are all the complaints about the camera on the WiiU gamepad?

Go make a thread in the Nintendo forums about it, you might find some. This is a thread in the Microsoft forums about the Xbox One and Kinect.

I would like to know why it is such a big deal to keep it plugged in. If you don't want it watching you then turn it towards the wall. You can basically turn off all of its functions in settings. People are making too big a deal about this.

It's a little thing called principle. Companies should not force people to have anything attached or plugged in to a device that isn't clearly essential to the functioning of the device.

It is an unnecessary imposition. Even a small imposition is an unwelcome imposition.

If game developers want to make games with compulsopry Kinect functionality then that will inevitably lead to almost everyong leaving their Kinect hooked up to their Xb one. There's no need to force the Kinect to be hooked up for game developers to do this. And if TV control with Kinectis such a compelly function then people will also leave their Kinect hooked up all the time. Again no need to force people to have it hooked up. On the other hand having Kinect hooked up at all times isn't going to encourage developers to put Kinect functionality in games any more than they are already encouraged by having Kinect bundled with all Xb one's. And if people don;t like waving their hands and talking to their TV, they will continue to use the remote control even with Kinect always connected. So there isn't really even a sound business reason for this.

I suspect there was some link between MS's DRM strategy and always hooked up Kinect. But while they dropped their DRM strategy they kept the Always connected Kinect requirement.
