Kojima is a drama queen . Needs to stop complaining and focus on making games that doesn't have long boring cutscenes.. i loved his old MGS titles but MGS4 was boring in the cutscenes areas . MGS5 looks promising and can't wait to play. In saying that i would rather play Mgs games then GTS games.

Kojima is a movie director by profession who makes videogames. What do you expect from him?

Thats the problem. He tries to hard ot be movie director but isn't able to create a product that has compelling  storyline and  interestign cutscenes that captures the player interest. Out of all teh MGS game smgs4 was the worst in my opinion.  Hes a videogame directpr  therefore he should focus on making a game fun to play with intersting storylien rathe rthen a game tht tries very hard to be liek hollywood movies but fails to deliver .

I prefer it if JP game developers try not to copy western style games. I like the diversity.

Watch the video and pay close attention. His game is extremely limited compared.

His game is limited even in comparison to San Andreas. MGS and GTAV are two entirely different games anyway. They're not meant to be the same. Kojima is fooling himself if he thinks he can match the scale of GTAV while mantaining the much better MGS mechanics.

Um....to the best of my recollection, when it came to gameplay and tactics MGS was second to Splinter Cell until the game tried to become storyline heavy to make up for its lack of fanfare for a character and fantastical storytelling to drive progression like MGS. The gameplay mechanics of this new GTA puts even the old GTA titles of old including IV to shame.

Gameplay upgrades:

-Three characters which means at anytime you can change between three distinct vantage points during gameplay, which is better for strategy and accuracy in missions. This also helps for narrative.

- Gun handling is more realistic and on part with todays TPS shooter.

- Voyeurism outside of missions. You can sneak up on people you know.

- You can drive in third person/first person.

- Sports can be played furthering the fun of being in the world you will immerse yourself in. This also expands the gameplay mechanics into minigames even further.

- Improved weapon wheel and handling

- Set up your own missions and decide how to execute missions. This means the game has amazing replay value.

- You can also do stocks and real estate.

The rest is pretty much what you're already used to.

The problem is Japanese games outside of Nintendo without growth are becoming niche if they dont evolve. Japanese developers do not want this and what I seem to be getting from most of the fans of Japanese products is that they are very selfish to these facts.

I never bought that Western games overtook Japanese ones. In popularity, sure, but not in quality.

I think GTA 5 has taken the crown for gameplay this gen so far as it seems. Last of Us and Super Mario Galaxy are next. The GOTY is going to be tough to choose as it seems.

Dare I say that we should wait for the game to come out before we declare it as having the best gameplay

Having said that, I have to say that that video was the most impressive I have ever seen, it just looks so so brilliant! Kojima is right to admit this, R* are just the best at making open world games

Why is he even worried, both completely different games, although gta 5 will end up being a much better game

Kojima wants to be known as the best and he's the foremost developer representing evolution of gaming in Japan.

What are you talking about? Of course his game could be a movie. In fact MGS is based off of Escape From New York with Kurt Russell. MGS is definitely going to have a movie one of these days.

What's the big deal with GTAV? I mean it looks a lot like San Andreas for PS2 with ocean exploration being added (which I bet is pretty limited) So it's beyond me what surprised Kojima so much LOL what did he expect?

I think he was alluding to the interactive prowess of the game, not just the scale and gameplay. If you look at the new MGS you can definitely see some Naughty Dog influences.

Well it's not much of a secret that Splinter Cell is a soulless, dull and sluggish game with mediocre AI and controls compared to Metal Gear Solid. And I wonder from where you came with that idea that MGS "tried" to be heavy on story.. as the fact is it was always story focused. Syphon Filter and Splinter Cell were inspired by MGS but neither quite had the same approach and both ended failing to establish high quality franchises.

Back to GTA,  those points you wrote were pretty expected, its the natural evolution of well established franchises. With the exception of combat mechanics, graphics and maybe story, GTAIV was a clear step backwards from San Anreas and I'm certain most GTA fans agree. It might be the most overrated game of all time.

From the combat I've seen so far from GTAV, I couldn't convince myself that this is even mediocre shooting, you're clearly exaggerating by saying it's on par with TPS shooters.

Don't get me wrong, GTAV will be a great game when it comes to relaxing and having fun. But who thought otherwise? Again, I think Kojima is trying to achieve the impossible. It's as though he wants to break through the "genre barrier" Also I do remember Kojima reacting similarily to the first Assassin's Creed, one of the most boring and repetitive games ever. (Though it did have its strong points)

GTA IV had mediocre shooting. The new GTA has evolved, meaning they learned from RDR, obviously. Rockstar has been the benchmark for open world games.
