Well it's not much of a secret that Splinter Cell is a soulless, dull and sluggish game with mediocre AI and controls compared to Metal Gear Solid. And I wonder from where you came with that idea that MGS "tried" to be heavy on story.. as the fact is it was always story focused. Syphon Filter and Splinter Cell were inspired by MGS but neither quite had the same approach and both ended failing to establish high quality franchises.

Back to GTA,  those points you wrote were pretty expected, its the natural evolution of well established franchises. With the exception of combat mechanics, graphics and maybe story, GTAIV was a clear step backwards from San Anreas and I'm certain most GTA fans agree. It might be the most overrated game of all time.

From the combat I've seen so far from GTAV, I couldn't convince myself that this is even mediocre shooting, you're clearly exaggerating by saying it's on par with TPS shooters.

Don't get me wrong, GTAV will be a great game when it comes to relaxing and having fun. But who thought otherwise? Again, I think Kojima is trying to achieve the impossible. It's as though he wants to break through the "genre barrier" Also I do remember Kojima reacting similarily to the first Assassin's Creed, one of the most boring and repetitive games ever. (Though it did have its strong points)

GTA IV had mediocre shooting. The new GTA has evolved, meaning they learned from RDR, obviously. Rockstar has been the benchmark for open world games.
