Forums - Nintendo - Fire Emblem on Wii U Would need to sell 700K to be Worthwhile, says Nintendo

Intelligent Systems Hitoshi Yamagami discussed how much Fire Emblem on Wii U would need to sell to be a worth while investment.

According to Yamagami, the series would have to sell around 700,000 copies in order to justify the development and make a solid profit.

Fire Emblem Awakening is nearing 1 million units sold in retail and more if you count digital sales. No previous Fire Emblem game on consoles has came close to selling 700,000 units, however, with the emergence of Fire Emblem Awakening, I’m guessing Nintendo could pull those numbers if the game is as good as FE Awakening.

Nintendo still has to launch Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem before a new Fire Emblem game on Wii U so they will probably look at the sales of that game and determine if it’s worth it.

Personally, I think Fire Emblem is just more suited towards handhelds given the nature of it's battle system.

We'll see a Mario RPG on WiiU before IntSys even considers a FE on the console.

I will be buying the game, but i doubt 700,000 is an unreachable number, especially if its releasing in 2014 which will be prime time for the Wii U

Anyone think Fire Emblem will make it to 1 million by Christmas?

Including digital, it may already have. Game was hurt by low amount of copies in store for US launch. Some people just skipped it because of that.

Retail numbers will hit 1 million with time, we might even get an annoucement that it has. Or we could always look at the Nintendo software reports if they decide to release them again.

Fire Emblem Awakening sold around 300-400 thousand copies digital, I think Nintendo confirmed that already

im assuming 700,000 at full retail price? I dont know then, its possible

That'd be difficult. FE is still pretty niche, and a Wii U title wouldn't sell nearly as well in Japan as Awakening.

after Awakening, it is possible (on 2014 of course)

I'd be fine with Fire Emblem and Advance Wars staying on handheld.

didnt a FE just release this year on the 3DS? also is there a game coming to WiiU in the near future? or is he talking about IF they made a FE game?
