Meh, rumors.
Its funny how people say its just a rumor for this particular rumor but when it was down clocking everyone was like it must be true.

Maybe that is what the first day update is all about (increasing the gpu speed). MS said the update had nothing to do with the drm...
It's funny... this thread is 90% made out of wishful thinking. What good comes from the extinction of one console? I see people afraid of loosing bragging rights. I guess it has to do with some kind of masturbatory state of mind. I want to see a fanboy utopia - a single company to whore-ship; nobody arguing, every game exclusive, all AAA. I really don't give a ... about specs anymore. Already played that game... the powa of the...

Just checked out this site: http://www.examiner.com/article/xbox-one-rumors-point-to-a-higher-clock-speed-but-doubtful-on-increase-ram
Here's an excerpt:
"The bump was supposed to have been planned prior to initial reveal. Any actual changes would have taken place during E3 Week. Effectively, the way the RAM is set out in the machine, Microsoft realized they could be more efficient in its use without sacrificing the amount set aside for OS operation. They immediately reacted.
Physical RAM won't be upped in time for November release as it was too late even during initial reveal, but developers are saying, in terms of efficiency of the RAM and the reported yield problems, Microsoft have made some snappy breakthroughs and gave the impression it was a straight up increase in clock speed; hence the rumor."
Legit?

It mades its rounds, found its way onto gaf and got torn apart. i believe 2 developers or insiders on the site shot it down. im not sure how legit those 2 are(matt and gopherd), but the rest seem to have listened to them, and the thread got locked not to long later. It could still be true, but im guessing its most likely not.
I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

Gaf isn't exactly the best source of opinions, even before the DRM debacle.
It sounds plausable that Microsoft would do a straight increase to the GPU. Going from 8 to 12 GB of memory is...very odd. This isn't like Sony, who were always following powers of 2 with their GDDR5 memory so they always had the same number of chips, just doubling in size: this is adding another slot and making it asymmetrical. I know that this can work (my laptop has 6 GB of memory) but my laptop's line also comes with an empty slot and is intended to be upgraded. A console, though? Why would you put an empty RAM slot in a console? You basically have to take the whole product line to task.
The GPU speed, on the other hand, is just a BIOS tweak. I suppose they could do that as part of the post-launch firmware update.

Doubt it. For instance, I don't remember too many Sony fans losing their heads because the Xbox was stronger than the PS2. Your extreme fans may take issue, but every sector has their fair share of those. |
Probably because there weren't any Xbox fans then?
How could you be upset over something you haven't played yet on a console that isn't even in the market?

Why would Sony fans be "upest" over something like that? Even more, why have this discussion when it's hypothetical and extremely unlikely? |
That is a valid question, but I belive that they would be. It's in their DNA.

Nope. It's in any fanboy's DNA to talk shit about what they don't favor. XBox fans are just as guilty of it.
It this was to happen, XBox fans would use the extra amount of RAM as a way to belittle the PS4 and its fans. Sony fans would go on the defensive.
The same as is happening right now with the XBO having lower specs than the PS4. They don't matter because games are there and all that jazz.
But worse, fans of either side playing semantics, or playing victims because people don't react the same depending on which company does this or that...
It's annoying from both sides.
