Forums - Microsoft - Rumor - Microsoft may increase RAM to 12 GB and GPU clock increase to Xbox One

There were rumours about stock issue, which there is stock issue in comparison to PS4, stock issue because of over heating and issues with cache and ram commuicating because of heating issues being found... suddenly it's all a lie, and the XBOX ONE is going to top ps4 in specs, right

Time to panic?

Shouldnt the XBO be into the production phase by now?

Wouldn't they have to delay the console? Or wouldn't that make it more expensive?

Neither.

A downclocked GPU doesn't mean it's more or less money.  It just means Microsoft may be currently running the GPU below its baseline.

I'm fairly certain 4GB of DDR3 memory would be cheap.  While a consumer grade package is $50, I'm sure the memory ICs alone would be relatively inexpensive.  It won't make the console more expensive to buy, but it may extend out the timeframe for profiability.

I think this rumor is spreadng so that "Tech" people pre-order the XBO.  So that M$ can say pre-orders are through the roof; and because of that, people that like to follow trends would pre-order it too (meanwhile near launch tech people would cancel te pre-orders).

Just a crazy speculation based on how some people behave.

Ram is pretty cheap.  It shouldn't be that expensive to add an extra 4 gigs of ram.  Didn't it already have 8 gb?

you can buy a 4gb ram card easy for sub $30 for a single consumer.  For a big company like Microsoft buying millions and putting them into a console, they would get a good deal or already have deals, ect.  I doubt it would even cost $10 extra per console.

if they plan to sell 50M+ consoles that's 500M+ by the drain. that kind of thing must be really well planed because if the extra RAM doesnt grant them any/much extra software or hradware sales, it will be wasted.

12 GB?? Can you say overkill?

sony has 8 7 free.  ms has 5 free.  so  what would be over?  sony with the 8gb right now or microsoft with 8 or 9 gb.  i mean come on some laugh at it only having the 5gb deidicted.  which is it?  say with the 5 and get mocked and ran over in a few years or go with 8gbfree now?

It went from the rumor of underclocking because of performance issues, to now overclocking..........
and while 12gig of ram would be great, both of these rumors wont come to pass. Wouldnt the Xbox one be well into the production phase by now?

It isn't necessarily a matter of overclocking.  It could just be taking it to baseline.  I mean it sounds like they reduced the clock cycle to ensure it wasn't overheating in the first place.  So increasing the clock cycle probably wouldn't include overclocking, just taking it up to the "advertised" one.

Those rumors, however, were summarily debunked by Marc Whitten, the program manager for the Xbox One.

I can see increasing the GPU clock cycle, but I'm not sure the benefit of added system memory.  However, a larger cache or faster cache could be beneficial.
