Yes, clearly. In a more general term; a "Fanboy" is just someone with preferences. (Albeit, on the extreme side.)

And also the fact that thanks to fanboys, they made the words *Damage Control" and the famous "EXPOSE!!" :P

I understand why someone would love a game or be a fan of a certain franchise like Mass Effect or Final Fantasy. Games make our time more pleasent they trigger fealings in us. A good game makes us happy we enjoy the time we spend with. Not just playing the game, but thinking about it talking about it with friends or discussing it on forums like this one. So I truely understand why you would be fan of a game.

But the console is just the Hardware that runs the games. What difference does it what brand is on it? Playstation Xbox or Nintendo or maybe even a goddamn PC? This is just the interface through which we are consuming the games. Get the console with the best services that you consider to suit you the most and leave those who disagree with your choice the fuck alone.

The only time being a fanboy is bad is when you troll other consoles for no reason. Besides that only liking one brand should get you shit. How many of you buy only Nike or Mtn Dew or love/watch only one football team, ect but you don't get shit for that. How is that any different than buying only Sony or Microsoft or whatever? The internet blows this out of proportion.

People will defend why they have preferences or why they are bashing a company or product but it is only a company at the end of the day. Gaming has become an example of "The things you own ends up owning you."

Having preferences is ok of course. The problem is when people's preferences goes beyond just a hobby but a way of letting something define them on who they are.

This isn't something new. I always looked at console fans like futbol fans, there's really no difference. If gamers weren't so lazy we would see real fights of MS fans vs Sony fans like we see with Barcelona fans and Real Madrid fans for example.
