I've always had preferences. And I think it's totally normal.
Take my TV for example. I'm not a fanboy of Sharp by any means. But the year I got my TV, I checked the models that were around the same price range, same picture quality, features, etc...
And I chose the Sharp (UN32LE700) mostly because it offered outstdanding picture adjustment options, with minimalist yet clean menus. Sure, the menus weren't as fancy looking as the Samsung's or Sony's, but it was more intuitive and better grouped (why does Samsung locks most of the picture adjustments when using Game mode? That's just retarded...).
So yeah, I really like my Sharp and even though it's a little old (3 or 4 so years if I remember right xD), it still hold itself quite well compared to the new sets available today. Mostly because it's well calibrated. So when someone would come to me for advice, I'd be praising the Sharp because of all those reasons. Not because I'm pro Sharp.
When it comes to console, it's the same thing. I have preferences. But it isn't really based on the brand per se. Although I do tend to like Sony products, like their phones, cameras and consoles. This gen, I preferred the PS3 over the other consoles because of its stellar first party titles and exclusives. Games like Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, The Last of Us, Killzone 2, inFAMOUS, Flower, etc... And also because of its free online.
I did get a 360 first though, because of Mass Effect, Fable 2 and especially Lost Odyssey (because I'm a fan of Sakaguchi's Final Fantasy games). But as the generation went on, it started gathering dust. Never been a fan of Halo, and Gears of War (and any Epic games, really) has never been my kind of thing. I did go back to it for the few really neat exclusives, but it really didn't do much for me the last few years.
And then there's the Wii. Always loved Nintendo. And will most probably always do. Super Mario Galaxy sits at the top of my all time favourite platformer games. While I'm probably one of the only person on earth who genuinely enjoyed Metroid Other M despite some of its minor flaws. But that system did start to collect dust over time as well. I really like how the console was made, the menus, the intuitive interface, etc... But there just wasn't enough content for me.
So yeah, the PS3 was the console that offered me the most content that suit my tastes. But that doesn't make me a fanboy. Fanboys have a hard time recognising the good in other products, and act like their item of choice is the only thing that deserve to exist. And they make excuses like "Sony killed Sega and destroyed the game industry!!! They must die!!!!" Or any other stupid shit like that... ¬_¬
Anyway, being a fanboy is highly immature, and it plagues the internet left and right. Making it very difficult to have a rational conversation about the industry we all agree we love so much.
In any case, what that video "reveals" actually goes without saying. The part about low self esteem is really telling, actually. Nothing screams more insecurity than people feeling the need to measure their e-peen.
