Forums - Gaming - If you think WiiU is still 7th gen, wouldn't that make the PS4 7th gen?

What Do you think?

I was just wondering after reading over the internet, people still say the WiiU is 7th generation. But from I see and with there logic wouldn't that make the upcoming PS4 7th generation?

Ok let my break it down, from what I understand the WiiU is a 7th generation console [with ps3/xbox360] because of the Nintendo Wii being a whole generation behide. So the Wii was consider a gen behide because it wasnt graphicly on par to the ps3/xbox 360, that makes it the less powerful console, and which [by fanboy logic] makes it a generation behide...Why would you consider a new console release by a company in the same generation as the previous one? doesn't make since but lets get back on subject.

So By this logic I come to the conclusion that the ps4 will also be 7th generation. because..

Well to start I could do back the the PS1 and Nintendo 64 era but the reduce confusion lets just start at ps2 era.
Out of the PS2,Gamecube, and Xbox. The PS2 was obviously consider the less power console. which by [fanboy logic] makes it a generation behind. So instead of being in 6th generation its in 5th gen, which makes the PS3 in 6th generation and now the upcoming PS4 in the 7th generation category.Like this. (only including Sony/micosoft/Nintendo)

5th Generation:PS1 ,PS2

6th Generation: Xbox,Gamecube,Wii,Ps3

7th Generation: Xbox 360, WiiU, PS4.

Make since? not really? well thats because its behide a completely bised logic! Lets just agree to stop with the fanboyistic logic and go by the fact that a console release after the previous one is the next generation line of consoles. So by time. if a new console comes out, what ever generation is currently going on it fits in there. I guess if you consider the ouya a gaming console, yes its in 8 generation.

So yea, I could have done more research but if theres something im missing. tell me. :D

Just let the crazy fanboys talk....

I consider the Wii U and PS4 8th generation.

PS2 is not considered the weakest 6th gen console. It was more powerful than the Dreamcast which is a 6th gen console also. I just had to get that out there.

Wii U is a 7th gen console - Almost the same as PS3/360 graphically. Wii is a 6th gen console - It offered the same power the original Xbox had.

Hum... no.

Your logic comprehension fails.

People don't really say the Wii U isn't a 8th gen console. For all intent and purposes, it is. They're saying it is a 7th gen console from a graphics and horse power perspective. The PS2 was by all means a 6th gen console when it comes to horse power. It offered quite a huge leap forward compared to the 5th gen. In fact, when it came out, it was more powerful than PCs for a short while.

Now, the Wii U offers roughly the same graphical/technical fidelity as the 7th gen HD twins. Yes, it is most likely slightly more powerful. But it's not the leap we get from one gen to an other since the beginning of the game consoles history. Definitely not the leap we got from PS1 to PS2, PS2 to PS3, or PS3 to PS4.

If we apply your failed attempt at logic, the SNES isn't a 4th gen console because it wasn't as fast as the Genesis... ¬_¬

You're completely wrong; the PS4 is only gen 4. Just ask EA.

This guy makes sense here a free cake

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

First of all, the Wii U is absolutely an 8th gen console. That being said, the PS2 was significantly more powerful than any of the 5th gen consoles, whereas the Wii U isn't much more powerful than the PS360. So in that sense your argument is flawed.

Still, power is irrelevant to generation.

Do you have any kind of source for that?

You have to consider the difference in power between the PS2 and Gamecube with the difference in power between the Wii and PS4.

Anyway, a generation is defined by when a console releases, so it's hardware doesn't have any bearing in that regard. Within a generation there is always going to be the weakest console in terms of hardware. Sometimes the difference in hardware is minute while in other cases it's large, as is the case with PS3 and Wii. You can't change the definition of a generation by hardware capabilities because it would get very confusing. I don't even think you should be getting in this argument. On the other hand, you could argue about what I said before, that is if the difference in power between GC and PS2 is greater than or less than PS4 and Wii U. I think people generally argue about the last part, but they name their argument wrongly by bringing in "generations", which seems to have become a misnomer at this point as an indication of console power, which it's not.
