I like your optimism but almost nobody is going to fork out hundreds of dollars only to play a slightly different version of a game they already own. I do think that Smash will still sell relatively well, but it won't attract a lot of new consumers to the Wii U. We're talking a million at the most.

I truly hope sales pick up for the system for all the great Nintendo fans sakes. I don't consider Smash a killer app for me but I may be interested when it drops in price because of Wind Waker.

I think a lot of people have decided to get the Wii U as their second console - that bodes well for them in my view. Plus, their heavy hitters are not out yet. They will have to work much harder though, and delivery titles consistently, but I think they are far from 'doomed'. But they need to drop their archaic tendencies. Things would be a lot better if they renounced some of their antiquated ways.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

If by "turn the Wii U around" you mean people will actually buy it...yes. Of course.

But if you mean the system will actually turn around and start selling respectably, then no, I can't see that happening. Definitely not on the strength of Smash Bros alone.

Whats ur definition of selling respectfully?

Selling at the level of its competition.

Ok so for example if next year Ps4 averages 150k/week, One-120k and Wii U-80k would that be considered respectable?

It's on the threshold. Teetering on the edge.

In the end, I'd have to say no. To put it in perspective, the lowest the Xbox 360 ever went was 130k/week average, and the much-maligned PS Vita averaged 70k/week last year.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

All the people that wants a Wii U for mario/zelda/donkey kong, WILL buy the Wii U. Everyone who wants to play other games too will need to buy another box. Nintendo's fanbase is huge, expect ~30-40mil units lifetime.

Smash will do well, but its no 2D Mario. Its no 3D Mario. Its no Mario Kart. Its no Wii Fit or Wii Sports.

One brawler isnt enough to save a console with as many problems as Wii U has.

I do wish the Wii U had launched with these games, it would have been much better

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

I meant outside of the holidays, do those 360/Vita numbers include holidays?

Smash bros brawl was a huge system seller for the Wii. Many of my friends bought one because of it.

Yeah, the price cut really helped the 3DS as well. For about two months. Games, games, games. When you walk through a desert bar, you can usually hold back the tempation to try a desert if they only have a few choices, but when they get more and more you almost have to try at least one. Creme Brulee, lemon Meriengue pie, chocolate cake, etc. Same with Cosco. They put out 20 booths hoping that one of them will catch your attention and make you try it and want to buy it.

That is what happened with the 3DS. The games kept coming, and you just had to own one. Now the only thing that the PS4 and Xbone truly have to worry about this Holiday is how big the 3DS will be and how much money people will spend on it.

A steady release of games is what the Wii U needs. Smash will be the big system seller that will give it it's real start.

I'm not talking about just a price-cut. Neither was Peh-Zeus. We are saying that coupling a large amount of (good) games with a price-cut would work out well for the Wii U. One or the other is just not enough.
