LT sales of 12m
It's kind of funny how so many people are only able to judge from how something is selling RIGHT NOW. If it's selling badly currently then it's all doom and gloom for the future. That's not predicting, that's just extrapolation.
The Vita is going to be fine in the long run. It will be a slow process unless they land a big title or an unexpected hit but it will at least be steady.

Sony can show us with Gamescom and TGS what the future is really like. At the moment, it has a stream of games coming, i want a river
Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

More and more games are coming and the fan base is very supportive of this little handheld. Things are looking up! Looks like 2013 is the year Sony finally makes its move with it. With the PS4 coming out, as long as it does not take business away from it, should help it a lot. |
No, people who actually pay attention have seen that the Vita is selling much better, especially in Japan.
Your optimism for the system is truly amazing. Sales spiked this week in Japan, but could likely half come next week. In addition, sales outside of Japan are poor, and the system risked dropping below 10k mere months after its price cut.
Japan is just about keeping the system ahead of the Wii U, but come October, and even earlier when MH4 launches, it'll all be over for the system. Which is a shame, because I like mine.

Once gamers start to notice all the greatness in Japan and third parties start to feel safer bringing games to the West, it will pick up even more. The turn around has already begun. A few big games this Christmas will seal the deal. Monster Hunter on the 3DS will hurt a bit, but that is not during the Holidays. Pokemon is. But besides all of Nintendo's clever business decisions, I think the vita is not on life support anymore. |
3DS 'revived' in Japan by Japanese-developed games with worldwide appeal (see: Mario Kart; Super Mario 3D Land).
Vita is being 'kept afloat' by games Japanese-developed games with very Japan-centric appeal (see: Toukiden; Soul Sacrifice).
Unless the monster hunting genre takes off the in west (and it hasn't in 10+ years of Monster Hunter), then I can't see this Japanese support equalling anything other than niche sales in the west. Which Sony seem happy with at the moment; but it won't equal a turnaround by any stretch of the imagination.
vita won't die thats for sure, but this holiday season will be real cruel for the poor handheld. Just realize that japan is the place thats keeping the vita alive, the same place where monster hunter 4 will be launching on the competition (with pokemon, zelda, and some other games). i don't know man, but i think the vita will exit this holiday season in peril mode
It sells 33k per week while 3DS sold 200k.......I missed where Vita picked up.
When Pokemon hits.......oh dear.
