yep. best introduction ever.

Sorry, can't beat that God Of War 3 intro.

Sorry, The Last of Us did.

Nope. Very different games, I know. I Loved TLOU intro but after you play it for the first time, playing it again isn't half as good. You pretty much press forward and watch the cutscenes. Fighting a spiderwater horse on a titans back then beating a God to death is still incredible 3 years later.

Climbing a Titan and slaying it was someting Sony Japan accomplished last gen. Epic moments. Even Castlevania tried to rip it but couldn't replicate those Epic SOTC moments.

I guess you could say everything in the last of us has been accomplished by hollywood for the last 50 years too.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

I almost did, I could feel it starting. Then I realized that I was only feeling that way because it was exclusive.

Had to think about that one.

Its the fourth of July and I am playing in front of my family. They've never seen this done before in a videogame. Because of me playing this game in front of them a massive gap between gaming and movies has been bridged and they've just witnessed it. They've seen the shooters and the platformers, but never this.

I didn't really know much about the game before playing it... I wouldn't say blackout, but i tried not to find information out.

If you start to over think while playing a game you might figure something out. I probably would have figured out what was going to happen to his kid, but as i didn't over-think it, it was for me shocking and emotional. I guess it can have more of an effect if you have children also.

Fortunately when i did start to over think it, it generally didn't go as i expected - which is good :)

Later on there are a few more heart wrenching moments, it's just a fantastic game, one of this generation i would say. I know some people may not enjoy it, but I personally think that NDog have done a wonderful job, and it's certainly not a game to be missed if you get the chance.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

after wathcing all those trailers and we never saw his daughter I knew she would be killed so no surpsises for me. and yes it is a great opening. 10/10

EDIT: So you didn't know about Ellie either and her death was still expected?

EDIT: For the record, he didn't censor things. I did when quoting him. Don't read if you haven't played.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU IMPLYING?

No, seriously, the thread is a five minutes into spoiler. I don't know the credibility of what you've posted, but you've pretty much ruined it for me.

I have kids myself and the opening was quite nasty. Very effective though, I instantly felt a connection to Joel. It also explains his actions at the end of the game.

Yet much later in the game  It didn't work with Henry and Sam. That was too obvious, copied straight from TWD yet too fast and not as well done. Henry committing suicide straight after didn't help. Too much a case of let's quickly get rid of these characters to move on.

Great game overall. I'm currently balancing a 2nd playthrough with GT academy, this gen still has so much greatness to offer.

Copied from TWD? What the hell are you even talking about?

Kid getting infected during attack and needing to be 'put down' then talk down the suicidal father.
Not a straight copy, little brother, infected during attack, actually turns and attacks, followed by immediate suicide of Henry. Far less emotional then in TWD. I liked the bit where they all started to connect and care for eachother better.

Out of nowhere? Totally unexpected? What?

Come on. Even if you were on a total media black out for the game, basic mathematics would foreshadow what happened in the prolog.

I only saw 2 trailers of the last of us before the game came out. If you already knew Ellie wasn't Joel's daughter- then yeah, it ruined the surprise because obviously she wasn't in any of the trailers. But if you were like me and avoided getting the game ruined for you, it was a definite tear jerker. I don't even know what forshadowing you're talking about tbh about Sarah's death.

EDIT: So you didn't know about Ellie either and her death was still expected?

Uhh yeah? The cover shows Joel and Ellie, not Joel and Sarah. Everything I've seen of the game as a drive by watcher who wasn't really interested in the game showed Ellie, not Sarah. Game starts with Sarah, not Ellie. What am I supposed to think? That Sarah wanders off to live happily ever after in this fungal induced zombie apocalypse by herself? When it's really obvious that the developers want to pitch some kind of emotional burden that just fits like a glove for future interactions between Joel and Ellie?

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

You act as if the Walking Dead was the first to do something like that...
