Wii U needs a price drop because the PS4 is just 50$ more expensive? Also because PS4 is more powerful? Wasn't the cheapest 360 at Wii's launch 299$, while Wii was 249$? 50$ difference, huge horsepower advantage for 360 (bigger horsepower difference than WiiU to PS4), more games for 360, Wii still sold better. All Wii U needs is games, and a reason for purchasing it, and you'll have people buy it, it's simple! The 50$ price tag difference will not affect much.

You have to remember the economy at the time bro. People wanted the best deal and Wii gave them innovation at the time. Packed with a good line up of games such as smash, zelda, and galaxy it was hard to pass up a Wii at that price. As time progressed that market faded and Nintendo tried to continue over to the next innovative tech piece. Unfortunately the price doesn't favor what other options are available. A 32GB Wii U at $349.99 vs a 500GB PS4 at $399.99. I really really doubt people fail to see this. A price drop would boost sales and improve the install base. It would also give Nintendo a chance to compete. Without a price drop it's not looking good. I expect a price drop around the releases of Xbox One and PS4 maybe a few months after. Good news for Nintendo is its partnership with Sega. That could be a key thing in the future.

The economy was much better in 06, people were able to buy more expensive things, not sure why you're making that relevant to now since people will be spending less since times aren't equivalent to back then (they are worse). They will look for the best prices for what they're getting. Wii U at $349.99 also comes with a game, something the PS4 most likely won't have included, and I really really doubt people would fail to see this. 350 (plus tax) with a game included (Nintendo Land), roughly 380$ with tax (but they should have other bundles with different games as well, a Wii U deluxe / premium @ 349.99 with Super Mario 3D World would be great), or 399 and you'll need to buy at least one game, which will increase the total price to nearly 500 (399.99 + 59.99 + tax). Plus, all Wii Remotes and accessories will work with Wii U, so there will be no need to purchase extra controllers like you'll need to for PS4 if you'd like to have more than one (are PS3 controllers compatitble with PS4?). Overall, people will notice the total value of Wii U to be at least over 100$ cheaper than buying a PS4, and I'm sure people would want to save as much as they can. Not saying that lowering the price of Wii U wouldn't be a good thing, but it won't look good for Nintendo if they do lower it. Not lowering it will not cause them disaster.

Not sure what Nintendo's partnership with Sega would do to be honest. I could care less about Sonic games....

What economy did you live in? 2006 the economy in the U.S slowed down and consumer debt rose. I'm pretty sure people didn't have money falling out of their pockets like leaves on trees. The Wii like I said was the best bargain deal at the time. Regarding the Wii U even at $349.99 I doubt people are sold on that price bcuz it comes with Nintendo land. That's not Wii Sports which was a deal changer, Nintendo Land is not. The value of the Wii U is shown when you mention controllers, but I have Playstation Move controllers too so no need to buy controllers for my PS4. Finally regarding the price of the Wii U. Nintendo's best option is to keep the price as is for now, but either when the release happens for the PS4 and Xbox One they drop their price or wait a few months after. Here's another option you mentioned bundling it at $349.99 with a "worthy" game such as Mario, but Nintendo Land? No. I really really doubt people would fail to see this.

On the note about Sega and Nintendo partnership this is huge. Reference the success Sonic brand has had on the Wii. Maybe Sonic doesn't appeal to you, but other Wii U owners or potential Wii U buyers will gain interest when they notice Nintendo has other publishers supporting their console.

Don't take my wording out of context. I said that the economy was better in 06 than it was now, and that people were able to buy more expensive things, I didn't say it was amazing to a point where people would carelessly spend on anything. People were able to spend more in 06 than they will now. And with Nintendo Land, I did say that they should have other bundled games, obviously Nintendo Land isn't going to move systems. But if people are giving Wii Us to their family members or friends, they'll want to have at least one game right? Knowing that there is a game packed in with the 380$ total price tag, it's more appealing than the likely 500 dollars you'll spend on PS4. I'm also trying to include those people who aren't core gamers like us people, those that only play games once in a while, because they likely will seek the best value for their buck.

The only things that sold well on Wii regarding Sonic are the Olympic Games games,  but they weren't system sellars, as in people won't go out to buy a Wii just to play the Mario and Sonic games. I didn't say that Sonic won't help out Wii U, more games available for people is a good thing, but to say that Sonic will hugely impact Wii U hardware sales is silly. People will buy the Sonic games, no question about that, maybe moreso on a Nintendo console than elsewhere. I mean look at Sonic Racing Transformed, it sold about the same for Wii U compared to PS3, and PS3 has over 78 million people while Wii U has only 3.5 million.

This is the last time I will say this to you because I know you are trolling: Wii U is selling 20k right now because it doesn't have games. 3ds too was selling bellow 40k and 30k with only ds and psp to compete with. then vita released and we all know how much relevance it had on 3ds sales.

Right...and PS4+One won't have games? Give me a break. Your reasoning is flawed and all over the place, sorry. It doesn't help that you have to resort to calling me a troll only because I don't agree with your statements that you like to repeat over and over. The only time 3DS even got near 40k was the week before the price cut, because the price cut had already been announced by then. It regularily sold in the 60-100k region prior to that. Again, nowhere near WiiU level. PS3 had no games either, and cost $599, yet it sold nowhere near as little per week as WiiU is now doing. Same can be said about 360.

Are you seriously comparing the Vita to the Playstation fucking four? You underestimate Playstation consoles, the first three of which will have sold over 100m in their lifetime. Sony isn't even trying with Vita, but you can see what happens when they start trying just by looking at PS3 sales in recent years.

3ds lowest week was 7k worldwide, right before the price cut and it was doing bad even before the price cut announcement. ps360 comparisons are irrelevant since their situation wasn't the same.

And you are not a troll for "not agreeing" with me. You are a troll because I said countless times that wii u's current 20k weekly sales are irrelevant to predict the console's future and yet you keep repeating it as if it were an actual argument. it's irrelevant because those are the sales from a drought period, the wii u has nothing close to a system seller and didn't have any relevant releases for months. it could be selling 10k or 30k a week and it would be the same. When the good games start releasing starting with pikmin 3, that is the time to look at sales and try to predict something.

One model of the Wii U is $100 cheaper but the one that gives more space has a $50 differential to the PS4. Onlookers will look at both and bypass Nintendo this holiday season. They've been doing it with the PS3 and 360 while those are essentially the same price. This means the average consumer doesn't see the Wii U as next gen.

give up already. wii u is the cheapest 8th gen option and the average consumer will favour it. and you can bet the ps360 will easily outsell the ps4/xone for a while.

You mean like the Gamecube?

you mean the console that got in the market 1 year later than ps2 and wasn't a dvd player? the console that has no relevancy in this conversation a bout wii u?

You seemed to be arguing that the Wii U will be favored by the general public because it's the cheapest. All I did was point out that that wasn't the case for the GC.

and all I did was point out that the market situation was much different for gamecube. ps2 was the cheapest dvd player and had a head start. now ps4 isn't introducing any media and costs 399. consider the current economy and you will see many people looking at those $299, $399 and $499 price tags and favouring the cheapest.

I'm sure many people will. But saying that It will necessarily be the favorite simply by being the cheapest is a notion that's demonstrably false, regardless of the economic situation. It's very much about value, as you just admitted. With the PS2, there was much higher perceived value, despite its higher price tag, and that's why it so handily won the generation. The same is true of the Wii, at least initially. If value wasn't the important factor and it was simply a matter of price, then we'd be talking about how many dozen times more units the Ouya will sell in comparison to the big 3.

I find it hilarious how short people's memories are. lol.  I mean, come on.  This has all been proven wrong so many times by history, that I just don't feel like explaining it all again.

This isn't the first time a system has struggled early on with lack of new software.  It happens to almost every single platform after launch.  You don't just simply cut your price as soon as sales drop off.   If that were the case, game consoles would all cost less than $100 by now.

Once a system builds up a library of software that is appealing to a wide enough audience, sales will inevitably increase.

Price cuts do not help at all without software to back it up with.  Price cuts without compelling software increases sales for a few weeks, and then they fall right off again.  I can't be any clearer than that.

Of course Sonic is a system seller bro.. I am and still interested in Sonic Lost World.. Mario and Sonic games sold average 15 million worldwide, I'm sure people picked those games up with a console.. Here's for the best results, Cheers bro

Ya I dont get it either, big sellers likr DkC/Wii Fit/3D World plus a few smaller titles in Pikmin/Wind Waker/Sonic/Party/W101, marketing and holiday deals/bundles, if all that doesnt boost sales then its time for a big price cut.

less than 1000

http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/call-of-duty-black-ops-2-goes-offline-on-nintendo-wii-u/

It was less than 1000 a week after launch. Dear god, there must be less than 100 people playing now. I wonder if you can even find games properly.

the article says you cant, which explains why we've yet to see a DLC for Wii U version. THere is more to this than how much copies are being sold. If people arent playing the game online, COD we talking here, we are less likely to see support for future installments, even if every version of it comes out, it STILL is the inferior version by virtue of not having access to DLC

That article is garbage.  Many Wii U's purchased at launch were Christmas presents.  The COD Wii U user base didn't hit it's peak until after Christmas.  One week after BLOPS launch there were barely any Wii U's in the wild.  The typical number of BLOPS2 players online now is several thousand, and it is no problem to get a match.  Matchmaking is instant.  It's no 360 scenario mind you, but it is "OK".
