Forums - Gaming - Prediction: XBox 1 will win the generation (consoles)

though I will give the XB1 "the benefit of doubt"; it has a very, very, VERY up hill battle if it is to become the #1 home console of the 8th gen

as many have pointed the despite the 360 having a year+ start/$100+ cheaper/ easier to develop for/ horrid pre & post PS3 pr/ horrid launch/ loss of billions/ 3rd party devs jumping ship/ MS throwing their money around and yet the PS3 is basically tied(actually slight lead)

now the XB1
-$100 more
- seems to be having a more limited launch compared to PS4
- coming off probably the worst pr in recent memory
- PS4 seeming to be be more easier to develop(backing of Indy devs?) and powerful than the XB1
- launching within the same window

i'm not sure the XB1 will have the so called backing of the U.S. market, we all saw how quickly they abandon the PS3, MS is going to have a tough time explaining to the casual-core(mainstream) gamers why playing games like CoD/Battlefield/Madden/ Assassin's Creed/ and any other mainstream AAA titles are worth paying the $100 more for a console. I atleast expect it to be a neck-n'-neck battle

Lmao PS4 in last? You're argument is completely Jiggly Puff invalid. When a console is so favored as the PS4 and you put it in last, you're a bitter Jiggly Puff. I have nothing against Xbox owners or their brand, but my god are Jiggly Puffs really annoying. Lmaoooo

It leads me to think they only care about winning UK and USA.

They won't win the UK with that price!

Look at the VgChartz pre-order chartz, 2 PS4 games with decent pre-orders, no Xbox One games.....and that's in America.

XB1 > Wii U > PS4

With all the recent threads about how the PS4 will win and XB1 will fail to do too well, I decided to make my own prediction claiming the opposite. I believe that the order for system sales will be: 3DS > XB1 > Wii U > PS4 > Vita. I won't get into HH's in the OP, but here are my reasons for XB1 being top dog.

  • The Xbox brand is much stronger than people realize. According to google trends the XBox name was googled more than the Wii + Wii U & PS3 + PS4. Obviously, this doesn't guarantee anything but back in 2004 (farthest you can go back) PS2 was the winner based on google searches. Last gen? Wii was the most searched. DS also beat the PSP & 3DS easily wins over the Vita in terms of searches. Halo is also a very strong brand and is searched way more than any Nintendo or Sony series besides for...Pokemon. (Who would've thought?)
The PS brand is still much stronger WW, just look at current sales, and the consoles' prices. This is objective data.
  • Microsoft has loads of money to spend and will surely market the crap out of the XB1. $1 Billion? Wouldn't surprise me. I've already seen XB1 adds in the movie theater.
You could argue the same for all of their products, yet they still have failures. X360 itself ended last.
  • Microsoft seems to have a concrete plan in place to make the XB1 succeed. They have been creating new series as well as buying exclusive 3rd party games. I expect this to continue and they will build up their 1st party games. They also may release a new gameplay peripheral such as Illumiroom which could spark interest in the system. Kinect should still sell systems as well.
All companies have plans. They often fail. This argument is even more invalid here, seeing as the plan we knew they had was thrown out the window in a matter of weeks, plus Matrick resigned and the Xbox division is headless. MS seems to have no clue of what they're doing atm.

Next, things against the PS4...history.

  • The most powerful system has never won a generation...ever. Why? Who knows. You can't say it's because of price though because the PS1 & PS2 dominated despite not being the lowest priced system.
This is not a valid argument because there wasn't a direct power-sales correlation. No one says "oh boy, this system is more powerful, so I better buy the other one". It's the price and the games that affect sales, and PS4 has the advantage.
  • Ever since the PS1, the "normal" system has never won a generation. What I mean by "normal" is a system that doesn't do much different besides for being more powerful. I believe many factors helped the original PS's win but some of the bigger factors were the incorporation of a CD & DVD player. The PS3 never had that "special" thing due to bluray not taking off. PS4 also has nothing that sticks out. (For now)
PS4 is as "normal" as Xbone is.
  • Sony isn't in the best position to get into a price war with Microsoft or Nintendo. This could hurt them in the longrun.
They're already cheaper and in a very comfortable position, they don't need to follow MS in a price war. Plus MS could have cut the X360's price years ago, yet they still went for profits.

Finally, why will Wii U outsell PS4?

  • I believe that Nintendo actually can make something of the Gamepad. I think this will begin with Wii Party U. I also fully expect some type of Pokemon game that could be a huge hit if done right.
  • Nintendo has the biggest series in the industry which they can rely heavily on.
  • The price is cheaper than the PS4 which will help.

Honestly, all this can be refuted with current WiiU sales. Heavy-hitters will help and they may find a neat use for the pad, but it's too late to be any kind of real success and without any 3rd party support I don't see it. I don't know what Nintendo were thinking.

Anyone on this site actually agree?

My two cents.
