Forums - Nintendo - My fellow Nintendo fans, Zelda is our last hope to stick it to the hardcore - UPDATE: Nintendo betrayed us, it's time to go home

Will we be able to stick it to the hardcore?

In Nintendo I trust! 122 46.39%

Kinda... I hope... 23 8.75%

Forget about it, that ship has sailed. 64 24.33%

I am hardcore, show me the results. 54 20.53%

Total:263

Since "hardcore" gamers do not exist because its a made up term. And most of them actually just call themselves hardcore gamers but in fact are mainstream gamers.

I don't think there is reason to show the mainstreamers what Nintendo is capable of I mean they dont even have their OWN opinion anyway so who cares. The less mainstreamers are on a console the better the games are.

MetroidPrime 3 was streamlined Skyward sword was streamlined. Mario Galaxy 2 (overworld "line" instead of hub) was streamlined. NSMB is a streamlined Mario series and its the worst Mario IP.  So no thanks.

Niche Nintendo FTW!

You lost me at "boycott".

I'm not fond of attempting to solve problems through inaction.

2013 hasn't been a good year for Wii U owners and Nintendo fans who want to see the Wii U do well, but haven't bought one for themselves yet. E3 didn't help matters. Two of our three chances to stick it to the hardcore turned out to be busts. 3D Mario isn't going to blow minds, because Super Mario 3D World is a mere expansion pack to the 3DS's Super Mario 3D Land. Metroid doesn't even exist, because Retro is busily working on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

Monolith Soft's X doesn't cut it, because it isn't one of the three big Nintendo IPs. So the only hope left to show the hardcore what the Wii U is capable of is the Zelda game we have yet to see. We can only hope that it will look even better than this:

But the problem is that we are getting The Wind Waker HD and Aonuma's statements regarding the artstyle of the actual Wii U Zelda game aren't particularly encouraging. We, Nintendo's biggest fans, should be prepared to get disappointed with another cell-shaded Zelda game that looks nothing like the demo above. And then what? What are we going to tell the hardcore then? "Yes, you were right all along. The Wii U isn't next gen." - Hell no! We can't allow Nintendo to backstab us like that. So what we have to do is this:

We need to boycott the crappy Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Plus it should go without saying that nobody should buy The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD either.

It's important that none of us suffers from a weak moment and buys those games, because Nintendo needs to get the message. We can't accept such games. We need glorious HD games to be not only accepted by our peers, the hardcore, but envied by them. If we don't get a true 3D Mario, a new Metroid by Retro and a proper Zelda game, then what's even the point of owning a Wii U?

A PRETENDO in all its glory!

Anyway, I'm getting Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze because I support awesome games, and no true hardcore gamer should be skipping a Retro-made Donkey Kong for any reason whatsoever.

Who gives a crap about the hardcore gamer? I want quality games of a wide variety of sorts, and when it comes to games comparable to that Zelda demo, I'm confident we're going to get it, from games like Watch Dogs, X, etc. Meanwhile, as great as a new Mario in the vein of Galaxy would be, this isn't the right time for Nintendo to release such a game. Right now, they need to focus more on the mainstream, who prefer the 3D Land style over the classic 3D Mario games - add in multiplayer and Miiverse, and it's going to be a strong game. DKC:TF isn't a big deal to me, but it's looking very classy at this point. And Wind Waker HD is like OoT3D, in that it's going to be a great game made better by fixing some of its flaws.

And there's no way that, once I get a Wii U (and I've been wanting to get one for a while, but haven't had the money), I'll skip over top-notch games, just to try to scare Nintendo into doing what the hardcore want.

Meanwhile, do you honestly think that Nintendo would just make another Wind Waker type Zelda after Wind Waker HD? Of course not. Nintendo isn't going to waste their opportunity with the new Zelda by making it similar to a Zelda already remade on the system. We MAY get something graphically similar to Skyward Sword (but HD quality), but that's fine with me. When it comes down to it, I trust Nintendo to make Zelda one of the greatest games of the generation, irrespective of the graphical style.

And once again, screw the hardcore gamer. Give me quality gaming over quality graphics anyday.

Not entirely sure that you are being serious Rol, but trying to "stick it to the hardcore" is a fruitless attempt. Even if Nintendo came out with a game that completely blows away any PS360 game, the "hardcore" crowd will probably say something along the lines of "Pfft the PS4/XBone will make better looking games" which is true. Nintendo has better things to do than appease the "hardcore", and good graphics are nothing more than eye candy.

DKC: TF will be the first game I buy for Wii U come November. Now, the "no true hardcore gamer" part is actually sarcasm. I'm planning to be more sarcastic in the future, in hopes that some might realize how annoying this kind of argument is.

I know this thread is satire, and it might not make business sense to do this, but is it bad that I want this? Not so much the HD but the putting maximum effort on all fronts into some flagship games that show what's possible in this gen that wasn't on the Wii. Like how seeing Galaxy or Metroid Prime or Ocarina for the first time makes one say wow.

So hardcore games equals photo realistic graphics ? I guess Viewtiful Joe and Okami are also games that ''hardcore gamers'' should not play. What a narrow way of thinking about games. I hope OP was being sarcastic.

He was. THis guy's speciality is in making over-the-top sarcastic threads that make fun of common gamer attitudes.
