2013 hasn't been a good year for Wii U owners and Nintendo fans who want to see the Wii U do well, but haven't bought one for themselves yet. E3 didn't help matters. Two of our three chances to stick it to the hardcore turned out to be busts. 3D Mario isn't going to blow minds, because Super Mario 3D World is a mere expansion pack to the 3DS's Super Mario 3D Land. Metroid doesn't even exist, because Retro is busily working on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

Monolith Soft's X doesn't cut it, because it isn't one of the three big Nintendo IPs. So the only hope left to show the hardcore what the Wii U is capable of is the Zelda game we have yet to see. We can only hope that it will look even better than this:

But the problem is that we are getting The Wind Waker HD and Aonuma's statements regarding the artstyle of the actual Wii U Zelda game aren't particularly encouraging. We, Nintendo's biggest fans, should be prepared to get disappointed with another cell-shaded Zelda game that looks nothing like the demo above. And then what? What are we going to tell the hardcore then? "Yes, you were right all along. The Wii U isn't next gen." - Hell no! We can't allow Nintendo to backstab us like that. So what we have to do is this:

We need to boycott the crappy Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Plus it should go without saying that nobody should buy The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD either.

It's important that none of us suffers from a weak moment and buys those games, because Nintendo needs to get the message. We can't accept such games. We need glorious HD games to be not only accepted by our peers, the hardcore, but envied by them. If we don't get a true 3D Mario, a new Metroid by Retro and a proper Zelda game, then what's even the point of owning a Wii U?

A PRETENDO in all its glory!
